Dead Hugo

Had planned on listening to a little music this evening and selected a nice Sheryl Crow album which strangely refused to play.  Upon checking I discover that the lights on my beloved Hugo are not lighting up properly, or at all wihtout the charger connected, and it would appear to be dead!  I'm ever so slightly gutted,  even though I can still play vinyl and have access to my tuner I do love my digital system and the Hugo.  I'll contact my dealer tomorrow and see if Chord can have a look at it for me and, as it's well outside its warranty, what it would cost to get it repaired if it can be repaired.  Bugger!!!

DayJay, this happened to me not too long ago. When plugged in, a small white light seemed to flash but it was otherwise dead. Apparently it was a battery related issue which required replacement batteries. The time spent without seemed like an eternity!

Did they fix it under warranty or was there a charge do you recall?  I can use vinyl in the meantime but I will really struggle without it.

The same happened with mine. Things get a little complicated as the stupid batteries cannot fly over the Atlantic for security reasons... My dealer tells me he is going to get things sorted out.

Well, it was just out of warranty and was quoted circa £50 by my dealer. However Chord kindly repaired it free of charge. Not sure if that was because it was only just out of warranty or not but I was very pleased either way.

It sounds like it should be an easy fix, at least you should be glad they aren't exploding within the Hugo like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 batteries...

Something similar happened to me a bit prematurely with the Mojo given that it was only 7 months old. Luckily it was still under warranty and Chord replaced it with a brand new one.

I can't blame the Hugo for refusing to play Sheryl Crow - have you tried it with any proper music?

Haha, perhaps it's just had enough of my taste in music.  I'll give the dealer a ring today and hopefully Chord will sort it out for me.  Stuck with vinyl until they do

I like my vinyl too and I could certainly do with the exercise but I have perhaps a tenth as many vinyl albums as I have digital which reduces choice and I still love my Hugo so I will have withdrawal symptoms until it's back I guess

Mine went too. Took about two weeks for Chord to fix under warranty. Hugo was back for less than a week though, as Dave booted him out the door

Dave has a habit of doing that! My Hugo gave no problems in almost 2 years, and I would happily have kept (e.g. pass to a son), except it had to go in part-ex.

Mine is two years and four months old, was a fairly early adopter and have never regretted it for a single second.  Its going to the dealers this afternoon and we will see what the cost is to resurrect it.

Dayjay - I had this with my 2 year plus Hugo - I got the impression there was possibly a known issue on earlier Hugos here. Mine got repaired by Chord under warranty - I think the warranty is three years on the Hugo   - anyway there was no issue with mine - took 8 days to be back with me. I borrowed a Hugo TT during that time - I was pleased to get my Hugo back

I hope that it the case here Simon, I thought the warranty was much less than three years and was expecting to have to foot the bill.  Must admit I had a little chat about the TT whilst I was at the dealers earlier but I can't imagine that the extra £1500 would be value for money to me. The Hugo remains the best piece of hifi kit I have ever bought so I am looking forward to it coming back all working again, fingers crossed.

just checked the email from my dealer when I contacted them  - and yes at least with my Hugo purchase there was a three year Chord Electronics warranty and they have honoured it in my case - i think my Hugo was about 28 months old when it failed.

Sounds like there may well have been an issue with the early (ish) ones. Mine has had a similar battery failure and is currently back at Chord  (8 days and counting). It is about 27 months old.

I believe if you registered the Hugo with Chord you then received the 3 year warranty, but I suspect Chord will fix these battery issues even without (but who knows for how long).

.....as long as you don't play death metal for a couple of hours, you should be save.......

So did you like the Dave ?

I got Hugo recently as my head-fi set up. Couldn't be happier and I hope this little ting is reliable or at least cost less to repair in the future.

Pending the arrival of the necessary cables, I will hook it up between NDX/SN2 to hear if a move to Hugo TT/Dave can be considered for my main rig.
