Dedicated spur and power regen

Posted by: rainsoothe on 13 October 2016

Hi. So, can I have one of these made in an apartment building? An electrician I asked said that there's no point in building a dedicated spur, since usually in apartments the electricity uses 2 wires that come into the apartment (instead of 3) - he also had names for the type of network/grid or whatever, but I can't recall.

So, is there a point of adding a separate mains spur into my flat? (can't put the wires in the wall) Or should I get a mains regenerator instead - or balanced regenerator instead? I know Naim hates power conditioners.

Also thinking about getting a Hydra.

If I added a power regenerator, what specs should it have? - system comprises of Nac N172XS + Nap200, Audio Technica LP5 tt and, in the future, a Yakin tube phono stage.

Also, how should I plug these? As in is it ok to have the tt (+phono stage) plugged in the same spur etc etc - how would you set it up?

Thanks

Yes - it is worth it.

No - don't use the regenerator

Yes - do get a hydra. But even better - get your sparky to install a lot of sockets for your Naim boxes.

Thanks. And another one: should I use the Hydra with the Naims only, or is it ok to get a 4headed beast to plug into my TT and phono as well?

Generally it is better to keep your Naim gear on a separate circuit to the rest of your audio. That includes a turntable too.

Unless.... you start running into ground-loop problems, you may try to use the same circuit.

If you do an online search for 'Grahams Hydra' you'll see what it is. Grahams is a London based dealer, and it's a single plug with, as the name suggests, multiple leads branching from it.
