nap200

I have a nap 150x at the moment and am wondering if the nap200 is just a louder power amp or is there any difference in audio quality..I have a nac 112x and BW 1800 Speakers running 4 m a side nac a5...The sound is lovely detailed and sound hangs nicely..Both pre and power were serviced recently by naim..Dont want to change the pre amp as I listen to digital media via computer and it oes a great job..Just wondered what thoughts may be as the peakers can handle amps of up to 200w output
The Nap 200 will bring along both Power and Control (quality), but I wouldn't recommend changing your 150 for one at this point in your system development. The 200 could well show, in stark relief, the limitations of the rest of your system, resulting in a worse sound. Look to your source and I'm sure you won't regret it
The 200 is a better amp but you sound as if you already enjoy what your system is doing at the moment so why change - spend the money on more music ![]()
A better power amp for certain but it will throw what is obviously a good system. I would reiterate the view that bedst to look at your source components first unless your speakers are very demanding but I'm afraid I don't know them at all so can't comment

Lindsay
That's a few no votes for the 200 then, and I would probably have to agree. What's your source?
Source is a computer with Meridian DAC..in between computer and amplifier Chrissu..
The 150/x/xs/etc is a good amp; keep it.
If you want to stay slimline; add a Flatcap2x.
Which Meridian DAC are you using? I still have a 563; now in the closet.
Stick to your current power amp and work on a source.
Perhaps an ND5 XS since you like computer audio already?
Maybe a DAC-V1 and a 200 is the answer. I certainly wouldn't put a 200 on the end of of a 112.
If you're using a general purpose computer for audio, I would consider replacing it with one that is optimised for music only. Also a DAC upgrade might be worth considering (not sure which Meridian you have?) Alternatively, a streamer, as Adam suggests, could work for you. The important thing, I think, is to find a dealer and listen to some options and see how you like them.
Once you're happy with your source, maybe consider a Flatcap if you decide to stick with your current amps, but if you intend to upgrade them, you might find that it becomes redundant, so it's good to have a plan to work to.
I can't comment on your speakers, as I'm not very familiar with them.....
As for whether you need one with your system I really couldn't say, but the NAP200 would be a big upgrade. It's a great deal better than a 150x.
I'm an opportunistic upgrader so lived for quite a long time with CDX2>112>200>Dynaudio Contour 1.3 mkII. Can't remember now whether I kept the FC2 in place.
I wouldn't claim it to have been optimal but it was a noticeable improvement on 112>150, principally in the bass. Whether it makes sense compared with other things you might do, depends on where you're headed.
If your PC is a store and renderer for ripped CD's then personally I'd buy the new Uniti Core to replace it.

Hi Garry. Just wondering... did you use the 112/150 before the Naim service you mention? If so are you able to share any thoughts on whether the service was worthwhile? I have a 202/Flatcap/150 combo that is approaching 10 years of use and am wondering whether a recap is something I should work towards. Cheers
FWIW I have a Uniti (latest 192 board) and I very recently 'upgraded' from a 150x to a 250 & all I can say is that the sound quality is very much better...a significant and worthwhile improvement ...
I did the upgrade recently from a 150X to a 200DR, definitely a worthwhile upgrade. However, at the time I was using a 152xs pre. Once you change your amp, you are going to want to change your pre. I ended up with a nac 202 a short time later.
Another vote for keeping your money, but if you must upgrade someday then start with source and preamp.
