Looks fantastic, I am keen also

It's certainly space age, and Tomorrow's World would have loved it! But... what sort of effect would a magnetic field strong enough to enable levitation have on delicate cartridge magnets, how is speed regulation managed (i.e. will it hunt), and having the tonearm and platter decoupled have "interesting" issues regarding vibrations/footfall?

And I'd definitely have been a bit more convinced if they'd included a video of the wretched thing levitating (let alone spinning).

I saw a video of the platter levitating and spinning.

Silly investment imho.

FIrst impression is that suspension of the platter will reduce vibrations from the turntable motor and borne through the rack/plinth, though depending on the design it is possible that the platter itself could be more prone to acoustic excitation. It would be interesting putting the record on, when I suspect it will bounce more than a suspended subchassis design, so might have to wait a few moments before moving the arm over, and care not to knock the turntable when you do (not that that would be likely to happen). Meanwhile I wonder how good the lateral stability is, for example with a record with eccentric hole - would it be just like on a normal platter, or would it set the whole thing in an eccentric oscilation? I presume the drive is in effect a linear motor arranged in a circle, the inducing coils being driven electronically so there are no bearings in the drive system (or the platter).

If I still had vinyl and wanted to invest in its future I'd certainly be interested in knowing more.

Surely it's just a gimmick - that seems to be the thrust of the sales pitch - show off this cool new toy to your friends. There is nothing about improving SQ as a result of the design, so they don't even raise the sort of advantages there might be, as speculated on above. Do you think it could be made to gradually slow and descend when turned off?

I moved this to the padded cell thinking to was a spoof.  But then I had second thoughts.  It's not April 1st...   Anyway, to keep the link I'll keep it in the Padded Cell.

As for the turntable itself, I'm not sure it looks like such good idea.  Surely this fails at the first basic requirement of any turntable? Where is the rigid closed loop between stylus/arm and platter/bearing??? Even the tiniest compliance here results in lost information.  Ah well, maybe it's not mean't to be taken seriously as a proper turntable, just something to show off to your friends - and I have to say if that is the aim, then they may well have succeeded.

I suspect we're not focusing enough on the orange underlighting.

Could one slip a frying pan under and cook some bacon & eggs while the platter spins above...Supertramp perhaps?

What the hell does the magnetic flux do to your cartridge? Maybe back to ceramic?

There has been a load of coverage of this over the net over the last couple of days.  Anyway, made up to see a reference to Tomorrow's World, which was a great programme even if it did get everything wrong

Has anybody actually had a chance to hear this rather unique turntable?

If you have a power outage and it is playing does the whole deal come crashing down?

No, it's just temporarily suspended
