Hicap Question

When I compared the transformers of two olive Hicaps I noticed they were both Holden Fishers but one was slightly larger, making the unit heavier than the other? Why the difference and does it matter?

What are the ages? Are the serial numbers close together? Perchance they are early and late versions, the latter having undergone various revisions?

642xxx is the smaller transformer and 602xxx is the larger.

Naim hasn't made anything with serial numbers that high. Do you mean 642xx rather than 642xxx? Anyway they have a list of serial numbers and year of production on their website. Look under Customer support or go to www.naimaudio.com/serial-numbers

So, 1989 and 1990 at the very beginning of the Olive period. It is possible that the earlier one was a re-badged chrome bumper job, but really I think we need Richard's eclectic knowledge here!

It seems an odd one. I wasn't aware of different sized H&F trafos in the Hicap. I do recall that with the demise of H&F and prior to  Nuvotem coming on line, Naim briefly used St Ives trafos in one or two products, the Hicsp being IIRC one of them. Maybe Chris West or someone similar can shed light here.

Otherwise I'll have to consult my old notes or put it to Robin or Roy at the factory.

mike, can you post any comparative pictures?
