MUSIC to my ears !

Posted by: rjstaines on 15 October 2016

I just passed the 200 hour ‘burn in’ period with my Chord Music din-din, connecting my NDS to my 552.

I started a few years back with a Hi-Line then moved to a Super Lumia last year bringing, as you’d expect, a big improvement in overall sound quality.

But then, early this year, I tried out a Chord Sarum Super Array and kept it.  The sound stage opened wide (we’re not talking Grand Canyon wide,  just wider than I’d heard before).  And the detail that came through was even greater than I’d heard with the S/L, and that’s saying something.

And then, a few weeks ago I swapped the Sarum SA for a brand new Chord Music cable, courtesy of those nice chaps who play cymbols near Leicester (I trust that’s not advertising, Richard?).

I’m not prone to using phrases like ‘blown away’ to describe bits of copper wire, but, gosh, right out of the box these Music wires sounded good.  And having racked up 200+ continuous hours, last night I sat down to listen seriously.  I was blown away !

There is just more of everything.  Not a very useful description I agree, but that’s what there is.  There is a wider still sound stage (still not GC), there is more mid-range and bass in spades.  I’m hearing backing tracks I’ve never noticed before… it really is amazing.

So if anyone is contemplating spending the equivalent of a SuperUniti or an XPS on an interconnect, and is doubting their own sanity at such a purchase… doubt no more.  This Music cable is worth every penny of its £3,500 price tag, no matter what your disposable income level may be.

It's not cheap, more like crazy expensive. It's not easy to dress around the room, make that impossible. It's very thick, you can't hide it at all.

But it sounds...

At £1,100 a metre I'd want to show it off not hide it...  perhaps even mount it on the wall.

Unfortunately this is going to remain a hypothetical problem for me... the 2x5m S/L is unlikely to be replaced any time soon

Surely not, that would make you like the Kardashians.

Hm, he'd need one or two more radical enhancements for that I suspect

Like the other Music cables the speaker cable does not exist, it has never existed, and it will never be made. I am not even thinking about 18 meters of the nonexistant cable for my active system!

Can someone clarify pricing for me.  I see that all prices listed above start with "base price 550" and then list 1.5m 2 m etc.

What is this "base price"?

Posted on: 20 October 2016 by hungryhalibut

The £550 is for a single metre. So two 5m cables cost £5,500 for the pair.

£550 per single metre for Sarum.

£1,100 per single metre for Music.

Thanks to both

11,000 for 5m of Music - I guess I'll have to slum it with plain jane Sarum if I step up from Naca5

I do have my Music replacing my Super Sarum TA next month on the Urika - curious to see how that goes

Of course no-ones mentioned the possibility of a ChordMusic power cable  .

From what I understood both Powerlines and Ethernet cables are on their way. No need to only use IC, Din-Xlr and speaker cable...

Standard Sarum  - there are no funky versions of the speaker cable. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they developed some

According to Dave J above it is already developed- its called MUSIC!

Dave - please report on your Music speaker cableadventures

I've heard them on several occasions but not (yet) in their final production-ready form, nevertheless, they were quite something. On the last occasion, Nigel Finn had invited me to visit the factory to have a listen to an advanced prototype and the thing that struck me was when he played Cream's Crossroads, which, initially on the Sarums, sounded absolutely fine, not a track/band that I'd normally listen to, but fine. He then swapped the Sarums for Music and replayed the track. What an utter revelation! It was nothing to do with better bass, more detail or whatever, it was instead entirely to do with the sheer expression of three massive egos at the top of their game trying to compete with and outdo each other. It was gobsmacking and tremendously exciting, I just wanted to listen to everything he subsequently played and all of it was fabulous.

I've posted here before about how good Sarum speaker cables are and how I much prefer them to SL, sorry to gave to say, so you'll have to take my comments about Music in that context, but if you get an opportunity to hear them, do, they really are a game changer. I think they are only available at a handful of dealers but they're worth the detour just to hear what they do.

Cheers

The Presence-In-The-Room-Feeling the MUSIC does makes bass, treble etc so uninteresting. It's just all about the music.
