Super Deluxe Edition

Posted by: Guy007 on 17 October 2016

I'm not sure if forum members are aware of this site (as I haven't seen it mentioned) but its a useful site for really detailed information on up coming releases ( new and old re issues ) - especially the super deluxe editions, hence the name http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/

What is also interesting is, similar to CamelCamelCamel the Amazon tracking, they list many Amazon site costs, so you can do a direct compare on currently the cheapest site to purchase from - shipping and any customs issues aside - based on the local currency cost and GBP conversion. Scary how different some of the sets are, especially when you look at things like the not cheap Pink Floyd Early Years set that is due out soon.

Apologies in advance for the impact it will have on the wallet

Thanks Guy. Worthy site I wasn't aware of. Bookmarked it.

Thanks Guy. Wasn't aware of it, get normally my input from artist themselves facebook etc or through the labels. This might make it easier, while I think it doesn't focus on classical and jazz.

Adding my thanks too, I was happily unaware of the site until now.

Been following SDE since it started five or six years ago - an excellent source of news on box sets, vinyl and deluxe editions. Paul does his homework and often gets straight answers from record cos on behalf of the readers. He often gets interesting interviews (eg with Floyd restoration engineer Andy Jackson) and people like Mikey Fremer also contribute via the comments section.

They also have a regular "deal alerts" which alert readers to bargains - I have saved you staggering amounts of money over the years thanks to this.

The site also compares prices to get best value. For example, i had the Kinks mono vinyl box on pre-order via the River, but thanks to the good offices of SDE, I learned that it was £40 cheaper at PledgeMusic. And only yesterday I picked up a Ramones box at a stupidly low price after an SDE alert.

Good site, and well worth visiting regularly.

It's one of my bigger reference sources. Great site.

Thanks. I can see this will be useful, not least for weeding out the filler from the worthwile.

It has been good for information, so I hope people find it useful, after all we need music for our systems :-)

As you point out Bruce, finding the diamonds in the reissues is key. What was interesting was understanding that some filler ( a la Floyd sets ) is more to stop counterfeit folks.

As Kevin points out, Paul the owner of the site does good work, he also produces some box sets, and feedback on the forum had some tracks added to an up and coming release.

Bert, it does focus on more rock & pop and certainly artists that people here listen to.  Let me know if you have a site that does good comparisons for Classical and Jazz. As part of a recent Stereophile magazine article I found out about this Jazz label http://www.resonancerecords.org/.  Also a Philip Glass box set is coming out next month, if that music interests you.

That damn site has cost me a fortune! However, agreed, it's well worth signing up to for new releases and discounted sets.
