Damaged CD5

Posted by: Ref on 19 October 2016

I purchased a used Naim system last week.  Everything works great except for the CD5.  Looks like it was dropped or hit.  Does it look salvageable?  Have yet to remover the cover and take a look.  Should I even try?

Did they use a chain saw?

You should liaise with the seller and sort it out on the shipping insurance. Presumably it was sent insured..... I can't see the picture so have no idea of the damage.

Well, what would you do? Do you have replacement parts? Schematics? Torque setting data / special tools? The dent in the aperture looks permanent.

I personally would not. Have a search on cover removal, I seem to remember something about it being tricky. Good luck sorting it out, remember CD is dead so maybe this is God's way of getting you into streaming!

That's a sad looking CDP. It looks like it's days are numbered. Like HH says I'd get in touch with the seller and try and sort it out. Remember, CD is not dead, get another one!

I bought locally.  Knew it was damaged with I picked up.  I got an amazing price on everything.  Why I didn't care about this.  Just wondering if this is worth trying to fix.  I'll take the cover off and snap more pics.

Get in touch with Naim - the service department can give you an estimate on cost to repair.  Of course, it may well be beyond economic repair - I can't see the pictures so can't really tell the extent of the damage.

Looking at the pictures the damage looks fairly extensive just wondering what happened to cause that much damage.

Thanks Alba, that worked.

Crikey.  First thought when looking at that is a new front panel for certain, and possibly a new drawer assembly and hinge.  Bottom line, most likely if a repair is possible (Naim may not have all the parts available these days) then it's going to cost rather more than it would cost to buy a secondhand example in perfect condition.  Still, get in touch with Naim and get an estimate...
