PowerLine Lite

Posted by: Pauleb on 20 October 2016

It would appear the PowerLine Lite is now available although I'm surprised to see the conductors are 0.75mm which strikes me as somewhat light?

After what I've read above methinks I will stick with Tibia for now...

How does it sound though?

$125.00 US dollars (guesstimating, based on what I've read) is getting members here upset for an upgraded power cord, but $5500.00 US dollars for a SL XLR interconnect is OK.

The world has gone mad £100 for the powerline lite !!! It looks like a standard IEC lead with a fancy £10 plug top.....

At least it doesn't have a 2 cent resistor. (Think SL speaker cable)!

I have spotted that resistor on the SL cable, I am sticking with the supplied IEC leads and NAC A5 but if people like a "lite" wallet well its their money

I like the concept of Wallet-Lite. It's something we must all be aware of having bought Naim products!

I guess the cost  (and value.. ) must be in the 3 pin mains socket - as the cable itself H05VV-F / 60227 IEC 53 0.75mm2 3 core is  general small instrument 6 amp flex cable and is about £1.30 a metre (inc VAT) and about 70p a metre (inc VAT) when bought in 100m drums

As an 'in the box item' with the new Uniti's and Core, fair enough, but as a £90-100 add-on, really.........?

PL's, although costly,  typically deliver a immediate, significant and demonstrable improvement and it remains to be seen if the PLL delivers anything similar. If so, then whither the PL and if not, why bother?

I suppose we'll see come November?

Just a thought.

What a lot of bloody mithering. Nobody has to buy one. Get one if you want one. If you don't, then don't.

Isn't that what Internet forums are for?

It's an indisputable fact with the regular powerline...  I've read it somewhere on the forum.

As it's only a Lite version the bird may sound like any random passerine. You need the full version for that realistic rendition. Good memory though.

With great respect HH I must disagree.

If people feel that Naim are ripping people off by charging an exorbitant price for what 'seems to be' a slightly changed, ordinary cable then  they have every right to comment.

I was so excited when I first read about a Powerline Lite that would suit my very shallow pockets. But, maybe I will wait to read about more peoples experience with this product.

I agree that they have every right to comment, but sometimes it seems that Naim can do no right. It's going to be bundled with new products and people can buy one if they wish, but there is no obligation. If Naim invented a cure for acne people would complain that it should have been released when they were adolescents.

Buy one and listen to it. If it sounds like a bag of *****, then moan about it. In the meantime, maybe restrict your complaints to SL speaker cables or something - a 5m pair of those costs more than 30 times the price of a PLL, so if you find that they sound like ***** you might have good reason to moan - if you've actually listened to one first.

I think a problem here may be the choice of name 'Powerline Lite', which gives the impression that it performs close to the real thing rather than being just a bit better than the standard cable (in the case of the latter situation it could have been called Standard Cable Plus).

If we were told this was an upgraded standard cable from the start, then there would be no 'moaning'.

Cosidering it's relatively low price maybe we are rather silly to think it would be close in performance to the Powerline.

Just sayin'........

But maybe not, in which case it'll be a much sought after product for many people.
