Touching up a cherry Fraimlite

Posted by: Monkadill on 22 October 2016

Can any one advice me on how is best to repair/touch up a Fraimlite Cherry with these scuff marks?

Trade them in and buy new ones.

Shoe polish? French polish? Coloured pencil? Stadaetler pens? Re-stain, but only by Naim or an authorised repairer

I think ill give the stand a miss as there is too much damage and I could get a new 3 tier Fraimlite for £700.

Thanks for the feed back

My rosenut one has a few scratches etc, and was thus an absolute bargain at £900. Money well spent on a massive improvement!

Hard/soft wax blocks work on this type of damage. Often used to repair flooring and furniture.

Do such blocks go by any name, other than 'wax'?

If you search for 'Liberon wax filler stick' you'll find some.

This worked a treat for touching up similar damage to my Fraimlite shelving to that shown in the photo that the OP posted.  You can intensify/match the colour by building up multiple light coats. Available in light, medium and dark shades for about £8 a bottle.  Believe I used the medium for the cherry veneer.  Can't even see where I touched up the damage now!

Other brands exist but this will get you on track

How did it get so scruffy?

It was a ex-demo that was for sale. £450 for 3 tiers in the condition I posted. All the tiers have scuffs like that.

Ahh I see. I had the demo one off Naim a few years back, they used to take it round the dealers in a box they had specially made. That was quite badly marked but had maple shelves so it didn't show too badly

As long as it sounds good...

Can the Fraimlite shelves be inverted?

Tried inverting my Fraim shelves, but all the black boxes fell off.

B&Q used to see coloured touch-up pens.
Like a felt tip pen but in wood colours. I'd check them out and see if they still sell them, or search on a popular trading web site and see if you can find something similar.
Also, companies such as "Howard Products" make a great range of wood related products - I use their Lemon Oil for keeping my NBL's looking as good as new.

If the chips haven't gone through the veneer, I would see if the colour is restored by making it slightly wet. If so, simply brushing in some clear satin varnish may be all you need. Also, wetting the veneer wil make it swell slightly, which might also help disguise the damage.
