Narrow HiFi Racks

Posted by: Dungassin on 22 October 2016

I really need to move on from the 2 metal/glass Sound Organisation racks in my study.   Since replacing my 250 with a 300DR, the left hand rack has become so heavy that I can hardly lift it to put it back into its normal position.

So, what I need is a decent hifi rack of the stacking variety, so that I can load one shelf, connect up the gear on it before pushing it right back on the shelf, then put the next shelf on top, etc. etc.  This would save wear and tear on my ageing back.  However, the space available is limited, and I can't accommodate racks much wider than the current Sound Organisation ones (approx 500mm wide).  I could probably stretch it to 530-40 mm at a pinch.

For this reason, Fraim, and Isoblue at 600mm wide are non-starters.  I did think that you could buy Hutter racks made to custom measurements, but looking at their website, it would appear that is not an option, and that it is not clear from their website whether you can stack them in the way I describe..  Same applies to Quadraspire and Atacama AFAIC.  Seems like the only options are to either make my own, or have some custom made.

I see that hifiracks.com Podium can be made to order, but the legs on the shelves look as if they would be so wide as to make the available space for my Naim boxes too small, bearing in mind my overall width limitation.

I would like Maple shelving if possible, to match with the n-System.

Any suggestions before I give them a ring on Monday to see what can be done?

Nope, it's the new one that Cymbiosis are now selling.  One of the items I want to accommodate (my Arcam AVR850) is too deep for the 400mm depth limitation of the 500mm Hutter.  Also, Hutter do not seem to have a UK distributor at present.

The rack I have ordered is wood with glass shelves, and is of tripod design.  Don't know who actually makes them, but I believe it is a local joiner (?) who does them to order.

Lack of a local distributor is not an issue as Hutter ships directly to the customer in that case.

' Hold The Music ' do a nice line of bespoke Hi-Fi furniture. Made to your measure and choice of real - exotic woods, type of mitre joints and thickness of shelf etc.   Very good prices as well.

I popped into the "Shop" end of last week....the Rack in question? Not all glass shelves in place.
