Naim Stacking Question

Posted by: ink04 on 26 October 2016

Is it ok to place my 122x on top of my 150x on the same shelf on my HiFi rack.

Ive had to move my system to a different part of my music room in order to accommodate fitting the NAC A4 cable (see my previous thread).

im a bit limited for space so may have to alter the position of my equipment on my HiFi rack.

I have a Quadrasphire Reference rack, it's the one with the middle of each shelf cut out. It's a 4 shelf unit.

My CD5x is currently on the top shelf, but I intend placing my LP12 there instead and moving my CD5x on Its own on the shelf below.  The third shelf down has greater space so that I can possibly stack two pieces of equipment on top of each other. I have a Flatcap on the very bottom shelf.

thanks

I meant to add all the shelves are made of wood not acrylic

Its not a good idea to stack pieces of naim kit on top of each other. However, if you have no option then I would be more inclined to try the power supply with the power amp as they both have toroidal transformers in them which I imagine would cause havoc with the performance of a pre amp.

Never stack components - sound quality suffers immensely.  Do not spend another penny on hifi until that's sorted.  Quadraspire sells shelves individually - they are not that expensive.  I think the new q4 evo should be compatible with the older shelves (ie same dimensions - call and check).

When you actually get a demo of what separation of the equipment does on proper HiFi stacking shelves you quickly realise that they are essential for performance and not just a way of positioning things neatly. If you have to compromise then at least make somehow a gap between the equipment as all the power supplies interact and you can quickly confirm that you increase murky coloration and lose detail when things are too close together.

Here is how I have now set up my HiFi. The Rega RX3 speakers are in front of the system about 25inches from the rear wall

Thanks for responding, this is how I have now set my system up. The three little boxes that are sitting on top of my 150x are a Heed Orbit 1 PSU, a Heed Questar Phono Pre Amp and a Heed Q PSU.

The Rega RX3 speakers are in front of my system and are 25 inches from the rear wall and 42 inches from the side walls.

I've a bit of tidying up to do with the cabling yet.
