Nap 140 pcb

Posted by: rsch on 29 October 2016

I just received a 1988 Nap 140 from a private seller in Italy to complete my vintage system. At a close inspection, it turned out that the CH2 pcb has circular burning sign. He assured me that it is in full working order and this probably occured with its former owner.

Our local service centre told me that is possible to sort it during service, however i'd prefer to replace the whole  pcb but it seems that Naim no longer have these. My question is if eventually and indipendent service centre has this sort of spares.

Sorry, but if its in full working order, what is the problem here....? Certainly get in serviced - has it ever been serviced, do you know.... since 1988....?

Strongly doubt anyone has spare NAP140 PCB's. But perhaps Richard Dane could comment...?

It looks like some overheating around those resistors. I couldn't open the picture to make it bigger so couldn't see more detail. They are wire wound resistors, designed to dissipate a bit of power so the PCB has discoloured. I'd not worry about the PCB - no harm will have been done to this  (it's discoloured but not charred) but it would be worth getting it serviced just to check all is well especially as this has occurred on one channel.

Just get it serviced. No point in replacing the PCB.  The service will replace all of the caps and some other components. It will be like new.

Probably, but the Italian service manager who is  an extremly fastidious bloke payed particular attention on it

As several people have said already - Just Get It Serviced. Then use it.

Or, if for some reason (which I don't understand), you are just not happy with it - Sell It On.

A or B - your choice.....

If i'd eventually sell it, it's not so easy to find a CB amp these days in very nice condition

I'm not sure of Naim's spare PCB stocks - best asked of Naim's service dept. However, I'd guess that so long as the problem has been properly fixed and the PCB tracks are undamaged, you should be fine.  However, Naim's service dept. are the experts here, so if in any doubt, let them take a look.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your reply. Mr. Sandro Lotti is enquiring via Steven Hopkins about.

At worst i' m sure he' ll a fine job along normal service schedule.
