Nap 250 back from service query (not sure I'm happy with the dealer)

Posted by: Jamesie on 29 October 2016

hi all , I have just picked up my Nap 250 back from service from Salisbury , upon getting home and looking at the job sheet it appears that ,

A , I have had my full service.

B , parts used show a box and labels with all internal packaging.

i did NOT have the unit returned with any packaging at all , even though it appears this is paid for in with the cost of my service , I phoned the dealer and they said, as I didn't take it in to them in a box and they put it in a box to send it away ,it was returned by naim in a new box buy THEY (the dealership) have kept my box , this is an authorised dealer that I was told to take it to by Naim, there was no mention that I had to package it at all as this is an authorised dealer, I was of the understanding that this is all part of the dealerships service that they provide in return for the priveledge of being chosen as an authorised dealership .

the parts listed that I have not been given are as follows,,,,,,,,, 2 x end cap foam reference ,,,,,1 x inner wrap large carton reference ,,,,,1 x large carton printed reference ,,,,,,1 x label blank 73 x 174 white ,   1 x silica gel sachet.

does this seem right to any of you , surely as it is all listed on my job sheet and I have paid for it all shouldn't I have been given my amp back with these items? ,,,,what right has the dealer got to take any of this away from me , in fact what right does the dealer have to open the box that is being returned to me by Naim , they are just a middle man as a point of contact for collection and returns. Should I give Salisbury a call and express my concerns?

Naim have just announced a free box for returns to HQ over the Halloween period only.

They are strictly on a first come first served basis so be quick!

You just need your fairy godmother to wave her wand and that'll be a horse and carriage and get there much quicker. Of course the deadline for this service is midnight!

We might be in danger of being moved to the Padded Cell at this rate!

A locked cell more like

It's all turning into a bit of a pantomime,  someone will probably start shouting 'The box is behind you'

Ok , a little update,,, I have spoken to a representative at Naim today , items are shipped back in NEW boxes and packaging , this is included in the service cost as from January 2016 ,

my case or box (ahem excuse the pun) is slightly different as I did not supply a box for the item to be shipped in , I am new to Naim ownership and did not know that the amp had to be boxed to send for service , I didn't know whether or not the dealers had specific packing crates or similar for this , I think it is a simple miscommunication by my dealer , I was not told that a box was chargeable and was not asked to package the amp to be transported , when I spoke to the dealer I was told to drop the amp in and they would take care of return to Naim , had I been told it needed to be safely packaged I would have willingly done that myself , but I was under the impression that all I had to do was drop the amp to the dealer , as that is all that was asked of me , I was not asked if I wanted the new box or given any opportunity to have it , just told that as the dealer had boxed it they were keeping my box ,

i myself work in customer care and always try and convey everything to customers and give them the options , in this instance I was not given the options ,and so slightly miffed when I realised that new packaging was part of the service ,but was not supplied to me by the dealer ,due to what I consider misinformation on his part .

On a lighter note my amp sounds great now and it's not warmed up yet,,,so some serious listening needs to be done over the next few weeks.

Jamesie,

Why not offer to pay the dealer the cost of the packaging he used to send your amp to Naim.

He then provides you with the new packaging that Naim included for in the £350 service charge that you paid.

Cheers

Dpon

Surely a padded cell and a Naim box are one and the same?

See, all you crazy people with your crazy banter has got this very interesting and informative thread moved to the Padded Cell. I told you so, didn't I!

Just cut it out, right! Just….just….be…sensible for a bit and we might get moved back to the Hi-Fi Corner.

Thinking outside the box. I like it.

Let this be a warning to the OP should he ever upgrade to Statement and have to send them for a service

nice to know that new boxes and packaging are now supplied as part of the service , after all , this along with the service paperwork and manuals shows cherished ownership.

I've just had my NAP300 serviced and DR'd at the same time. I sent it in the original box and it was returned in the original box. So you are saying that Naim owe me for a New box that is included as part of the service charges and have not provided or £70 should be deducted from the price I paid?

I think Naim just make sure items go back in the "correct" box. If it came in with the right box then fine.

But we need another 2 pages for the top and bottom, a cuboid has six sides.

This thread has been moved to 'Padded Cell'.

I cannot think why that might have happened.

Maybe the new boxes have additional padding to prevent damage in transit.
