New deep cyro PowerLine on its way...

Posted by: Tallan on 29 October 2016

I just took advantage of AV Option's sweet Fall sale of 15% off their AC power products and have a new Deep-Cyro  Naim Powerline and a couple of TibiaPlus (also deep-cyro) cables coming.  The question is where to best deploy the PL?  The main choices are:

HiCap DR powering 282, or

He Who Must Not Be Named XPS powering ND5xs, or

HiCap DR powering Stageline.

I know the the best answer is "experiment" but with my racking situation changing anything including power cords is anything but trivial, so I'd love to hear from those with any experience which of the above is likely to provide the best bang for my PowerLine buck.

Like you say, experiment if you can, but if you can't I'd put it on the cuddly toy power supply. I don't use powerlines myself but I found the best place to put my first upgraded mains cable was on my CDP.

I don't think I've been paying attention, what is a deep-cryo PowerLine? AFAIK Naim don't list one?

I would tend to try the cryo'd PL on the power amp first. I have the same XPS (feeding an nDAC or a CDX) and have not found any noticeable differences when using it with different power cables, cryo treated or not.

(Chris : it's AV Options that offer the cryo-treated PowerLines)

Thanks, I already have a PL on my 250DR; my thinking is employing the new one on the HCDR>282 will boost all sources so probably the one to try first.

OK, but it's not a cryo-treated PL on the 250DR...

Actually it is.  Last year I had to ask the folks at AV Options if they would extend the sale discount to the cyro Powerline and as a courtesy (much appreciated!) they did.  This year the PL products are all automatically included in the sale.

Thanks, yes I realised that from the OP, I was just surprised that a Naim service centre offers it when Naim don't. Different markets I guess.

AV Options sends the stuff to Cryogenics International in Scottsdale AZ for the treatment so that might be a factor.

Ah OK. Your idea of putting it on the HCDR for the 282 makes sense. Let us know what the differences are !

I'd say that anywhere you want to try a cryo'd PL initially in your system makes sense. Then move it around among the various boxes and let us know what the differences are. Yeah, moving cables is not trivial, but do you want shortcuts based on extraneous opinions or the best sound from your system within your room?

If you listen to a lot of vinyl I suspect the PL on the HCDR powering the Stageline could be a potential sweet spot - for what that's worth - but I've never heard your system in your room. Even if I had, your opinion could well differ from mine.

And at some point, you'll have to go back and revisit your original scenarios for fear that the PLs and tibias were not fully burned-in
