i have an external HDD connected to my Mac Mini running minimserver but I'm thinking about buying a NAS. Any suggestions on what to consider?

The best way is to map a network drive on the Mac from the \Music share on the NAS and use Finder on the Mac to do the copying.

Dave - I use a cheap ReadyNas 102, with mirrored 3Gbyte disks. Appears nice and silent most of the time in operation - it has a temperature controlled fan that seems to be very quiet... hearing the disk head stepper motors clatter when writing is louder than the fan....

Hi Simon

I assume you are running Raid 1 on your Netgear? Do you think running Raid 0 will be better sounding?

What HDD do you use? Western Digital or Seagate?

I'm currently using a Synology NAS but don;'t mind trying out the Netgear RN104.

There won't be any difference in sound quality between Raid 1 and Raid 0. If you gonna buy HDD from WD make sure that will be "RED" one (dedicated for NAS servers)
