Rega Planar 3 v Rega Planar 2 performance pack.

Hi all, I've been getting back into vinyl. I'm not gonna get into the argument about what is better. Anyway, I have Tbh, I can't afford a lot and ld really like a new Planar 3, to replace my circa 1988 model. However, my funds wont quite run to Planar 3, but I could just strech to a Planar 2 with a performance pack. I'm assured both are an improvement on an ageing Planar 3. Does anyone have any experience with the latest Planar 2? It'll be used with an Unitilite and a Rega mini phono? Thanks.

The Planar 2 is a big leap up from the Planar 1, much better sense of timing and scale. However, if I were in your shoes I'd choose the Planar 3 with a Carbon Cartridge over the Planar 2 with performance pack. Thicker platter, twin bracing, better interconnects, and much better tonearm with bias adjustment is well worth it. Also, you have the option of adding the TTPSU to the Planar 3, which is huge. It's not just a speed control box!
