The NEW £1 coin !! - Looks remarkably like the OLD thruppennybit !!..............

............in more ways than one !

Yes, I know it has 12 sides v the old 8 sides

And I know that "worth" varies too much across commodities, wages and investment, but...........

......the new £1 coin has about the same purchasing power of imported American goods as the old thruppenybit did back in 1950 (when I was a young lad)

Well to appeal to both sides of the EU debate... it looks like the *****d off spring of a thruppenny bit and a Euro...

I think the old threepenny bit had 12 sides.

this one is designed to be very secure agaist forgery - introduced when the £1 has less than 40% of its original buying power.

And (apparently) 1-in-40 current £1coins are fake.

I think you're right IB. I should've rummaged through my "man-draw" before I opened this thread.

Well spotted !!

A new £20 note could feature David Bowie.

Both the new £1 and the old 3d piece have 14 sides if you include heads and tails.
