Nait 5i-2 Question

Posted by: mikeybaby on 02 November 2016

I went to plug my headphones into the 3.5mm jack on the front of my 5i-2 and no sound...daa..ipod dock only.

So now I have headphones into tape out on the rear and bingo...sound.

The question is: How do I raise the volume?. It is quite low. Do i need to plug headphones into a small headphone amp and then into tape out?

In short - yes. The tape out is fixed level. You need a headphone amp, which you plug into the tape out sockets. QED used to do one that can be bought secondhand for as little as a tenner if you're lucky. For a little more Creek did one that worked well and I can recommend for most phones. Otherwise, there are any number of reasonably decent units out there for not so much money right up to units costing thousands. What headphones do wish to use? That can have quite a bearing on the best choice of headphone amp.

Richard, would a Creek or perhaps a Rega headphone amp work in the same way on a Nait 5i?

Thanks

Damo, they should do. Either should  be well worth trying.
