New Majik LP12, used LP12 or keep RP6
Posted by: Gurbinder on 02 November 2016
Hi Guys,
My current turntable is a RP6 with a Hana cartridge which is great but I can't stop wondering if a LP12 is better, so I have booked a demo on the weekend to see.
What option should I go down and what are people's thoughts???
Do I go new/used or keep my RP6???
My wife just wants me to have a demo and make my mind up as I keep going on about buying a LP12....
Thanks in advance.
... but now you have the waiting ...
I had a big smile when I put my first vinyl on my LP12 and |I'm sure you'll be the same.
enjoy but don't get into the anal mode of setup and upgrade
... just stick on some vinyl, a quick brush and sit back and enjoy detail and oomph you've never heard before

I'm fascinated to find out a little more about your anal mode of setup; could you perhaps elaborate a little?

Were you going to tell us how on a straight price comparison one can "do better than an LP12" or was it just your intention to p**s on the OP's parade?

Thanks guys, I have given them a budget and asked them to build me a deck that will out perform my current deck with view to make further upgrade when time and funds allow.

Not a cult at all - no more or less than Naim ownership of course
LP12 ownership and upgrades are a personal choice as with most things. I've certainly enjoyed upgrading mine over the years and enjoying the benefits thereof. What's the harm in that? It's nice to have something that still supported rather than having to bin stuff every few years because it's no longer supported.
Bluedog,
Iwas simply trying to reinforce that the listening is the primary pleasure but that sometimes one can get caught up in a mode of worrying/tinkering with bits and pieces of the setup on any piece of equipment. I haven't even looked into LP12 setup and, from some other posts, seems like a no-go area anyway unless you really know what you're doing.
No criticism of anyone or anything intended, apologies if my clumsy wording gave offence.
... me I left it to the dealer and have sat back and enjoyed the music with no thoughts of tinkering except for giving each vinyl a loving brush before play.

PS - not quite true if I'm being honest; I did begin by over-obsessing about cleaning my vinyl and had to be talked out of buying an ultrasonic cleaner by my son 8D
Another thought comes to mind ...
Refreshing to say to the (trusted) dealer, "here's my budget, give me the best you can for the money".
Saves a lot of time, effort and worry as long as you trust your dealer to be tuned into your aspirations and sound preferences, I like it ![]()
could be applied to all our other HiFi components too but might take some of the fun out of it; or, an alternative view, allow more time and attention to the music.
just a thought,
Allan
Gurbinder: you chose wisely. is there a Roksam Nima tonearm in your future, perhaps?

My wife and I spent a few hours at a very famous Leicestershire dealer yesterday and they have been asked to build a LP12 that meets my requirements and budget.
I can't wait.
Excellenet decision. Said dealer has never steered me wrong..
