Hi everyone can anyone please tell me if a hard drive sounds different if it is plugged into a extension lead compared to a wall socket or a mains conditioning socket your answers would be much appreciated thanks

No: They make the same whirring sound when spinning up, the same clicks and hum when running.

Does it make a difference to the sound quality

It depends what you are doing with it. Put a bit of context around your question and you'll probably get some sensible answers

Iam moving the hard drive to make room for my nap 300 dr so iam having to plug it into a extension lead instead of a wall socket just wondering if it will have a impact on sound quality

By looking back through your posts it looks like you have a Melco N1A so i assume you mean this is the hard drive. If so, no it shouldn't make too much difference but worth trying both ways to be sure.

Try it and see? Not hard to test it out.

IME if you think there's a difference, there is, and if you don't, there isn't.

But before you decide for sure, a 'blind' test would be interesting. Can you tell the difference if you don't know whether it's plugged into the extension lead or not? My bet is you won't be able to tell.
