I just got a Nait 5i and some NAC A5 cables so it's time to find a matching pair of speakers.
I've a read a lot about Neat, Proac, Dynaudio etc and my question is to the forum members who have experience with Heavy Metal rock/punk music in general.
My cd collection consists of 80's produced titles (with good dynamic range, not compressed) in the likes of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer,Anthrax, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Exploited, GBH, Ramones, Bad Religion etc just to give you an idea and my room is roughly 4x4m in size.
I tried the amp with my friends Proac Studio 125 and i was amazed.
My budget is £250-£300 and metal tweeters should be avoided.Drum kick punch, good bass and listening at low volume levels is what i'm after
What have you got in mind?
Thanks

At that price it would certainly be best buying secondhand, somyour search may be a combination of looking for ideas then searching and seeing what s/h prices are like, and looking to see what is affordable second hand then researching a bit about them.
Unfortunately I don't really know what is available atbthat price, amd won'tbhave heard most, but I suspectbyou will appreciate not having bass rolled off too much (the challenge is bass quality (tautness) vs extension, the latter pushing prices up for good quality). Some older TDLS perhaps (the transmission line ones) or much older IMFs - my original TLS50 II speakers, now 40 years old, live on sounding very nice still in someone else's house, better still than many a modern speaker, with the only things done to them being a change of mid driver cones if the old ones have perished, which sometimes happens (a simple diy job for anyone good with their hands), and crossover recap, again diy and not expensive. and they can be picked up on a well-known auction site sometimes for very low prices. My TLSs played many an hout of rock music at decent sound levels and very involving, yet would sound equally good at low levels, or with classical etc.

Try to find a good pair of secondhand Naim Arivas. They might be just the thing.
Arivas fed by a cd5i and a NAIT 5i was a hugely enjoyable combo that really flattered heavy metal productions.

Definitely second hand, maybe £350 max if worth the result.
I had Neat, Dynaudio, Proac, Ruark, Royd, Epos and Monitor Audio in my list, not good for the 5i or for the Exploited?

Neat Motive 2s could be great fun. Royds too but they don't like to be pushed too hard - drivers are not available for Royds anymore..
Proacs aren't at their best with heavy metal. Monitor Audios tend to be rather bright to these ears ( at least modern MAs are..). Dyns could be good, Epos too.
Hmm.. My concert is about to start. I'll have a think about more options later, but that should give you enough to consider for a bit.

Seek out the new Dynaudio Emit 10. Excellent speakers that will show a clean pair of heels to much more costly speakers, great with rock, and you can't damage them no matter how hard you try.
Excellent build quality, and made in Denmark for a price most of the competition is made in the far east.
