NAIM App loses Twonky

Posted by: Thomas Elser on 09 November 2016

Hello,

my Naim App (version 4.9) on an Ipad is working generally well together with the Twonky Server (8.2.1) running on a QNAP NAS (TS-212 P, version 4.2.2). The Upnp compatibility mode in the App is disabled.

Problem: after some hours the Twonky disappears out of the App. It is to be seen again when I enable the compatibility mode. But this is not very helpful.

After rebooting the NAS everything is o.k. again - for some hours.

What is to be done to get a stable performance?

Thomas,

I'm not a QNAP & Twonky user so I'm only saying what I suspect & would do with my Synology & its native Media Server.
Is the QNAP to Wireless hub to player fully wired - or wireless =    & have you kept the system on DHCP =
I would get into Twonky & look for its SSDP advertisement interval & see if its possible to reset it to a different number,  I have mine set for 600 seconds.  If you can't find or change it,  OK  it was working once so go to the next step.
Carry out a systematic reboot of the whole system, turn everything off, wireless hub, NAS, player & iPad.
Make sure the wireless hub is off for at least 5 minutes so the ISP system logs that its off.
Start the system in the following order:
Wireless router - let it complete its start process & wait 5 minutes to be sure the ISP knows its back online.
LAN switch (if fitted)
NAS - let it complete its full start process
Network player …. the Network player should find the network automatically but may need some manual help with the front panel buttons.
iPad – good idea to reset the app as part of this process.

Thomas - just disable Twonky on your NAS and load up a free version of the MinimServer. If you like what it does, just make a small donation to the developer.

I'm using Twonky-7.2.8.0 on a Thecus N4800 NAS with the Naim iOS App UPnp compaptibility mode disabled and it has never disappeared from the App.

Is your streamer connected to your LAN by WiFi? The Naim iOS App/Streamers have some problems with WiFi, but things are improving with each update.

If you're going to use something called "Twonky", you surely have to expect the experience to be a little twonky. It's as if a model of car was called the "Breakdown".

I am using Twonky because it shows the CD-Covers on the Apple and Android NAIM-App. None of  my components uses WiFi or DHCP.

Does the MinimServer provide the display of CD-Covers too?

My problem of a disappeared Twonky on the App can now be described more precisely: When I shut down my Renderer (Unitilite) in the evening the Twonky has disappeared on the App next morning. It only reappears when I shut down and boot the NAS.

MinimServer supports cover art display.

Why do you shut down your Unitilite? It's designed to be left on.
