Lp12 trampoline

Posted by: Japtimscarlet on 11 November 2016

Finally bit the bullet and removed the trampoline 2 base that a very well known lp12 fettler put on my aro equipment deck  a few months ago

What a relief ..back to a much wider and detailed sound again ..

Should mention the deck is on a tigre paw valkan wall shelf (excellent product) and has been for quite a while

Has anyone else been really disappointed with the "boxed in" sound that any sort of base seems to add to a 12 ? Or am I the only one a base doesn't work for!

Changed from standard baseboard to a Trampolin 1.

Preferred the sound, so it has stayed.

My LP12 sounded nicer before I upgraded old baseboard to trampoline 2 early this year. But it came together with new Krystal, 5m NACA5 and Linn T-Kable. I can't be bothered as the new cart and cable need to run in. Although there are changes in the music it produce, i think the previous DV20X2 performed better.

As time passing by, about 50hours running in, then I did another tweaking of the LP12, then it starts singing. It was tweak with a new springs & gromets.

Had them tweaked again yesterday, listening to Daft Punk, Random Access Memory, from my memory, I realized the deck now singing better compared to the demo I had at Gaddesby Lane!!!

***Peter, pls dnt be mad, because I am running active now & I believe it will be more Fantastic if they were calibrated by you!

Cheers

Leave the Trampolin to John Lewis.

Invest in a concrete floor and Fraim.

Even Thor's hammer won't make it bounce then. This is the advice from the realm of Asgard.

Amazes me how much crap has been marketed around the LP12 over the years. Snake oil everywhere you look

Well Japtim, I think we're saying that we don't agree with your premise that 'any sort of base' has a deleterious effect on the sound. If you have theright support for the deck the Trampolinn becomes somewhat redundant.

Next to the bearing ' what the turntable is sat on in terms of a support is the second most important thing..I use a Blok stand,,Great Support...

I have had a LP12 the last 20 years. Its a got an Ittok and Decca London Supergold cartridge and a Vahalla board.I removed the base years ago and found it really opened the sound out.The LP12 sits on a small Cornflake Shop metal framed stand which sits on a carpeted concrete floor.Still get loads of pleasure from the Linn.I know I could throw lots of money on upgrades but would rather buy more vinyl instead.

Base off for me

OK

Thanks everyone

I'm certainly not going to bang on that everyone should try this or that ... It was purely a question to see if others had noticed that no base equalled a more open sound or not

And it seems about 50/50 with those that either like what the trampoline does or want to keep it for safety or mounting purposes and don't really care / experiment ..and those like me who like what nothing down below does for the sound

I'm just listening to my new back to black copy of navarna never mind on 180gm ...and thinking .... Niccceeee

I have my LP12 sitting on a Mana table. No base sounds much better ( more open and direct) than the standard base or Trampoline 1. Haven't tried Trampoline 2 but it is one reason that makes me reluctant to try the Urika.

The original trampolin was a horrid thing that really messed up the sound. I always ran my LP12 with no base.

Where does the fine fettler of Leicester sit on this conundrum?

50/50? Where does that statistic come from? There's not one person on this thread that states no base is better than Trampolin 2. Don't be biased.

Trampolin 2 is my vote

I have my LP12 on a Phase 4 Mana shelf, and I find that no baseboard + 3M bumpons in place of the Linn feet is better than either the original baseboard or the Trampolin 2. But the new(ish) solid baseboard, which is "just" a metal rectangle that's attached to the underside of the plinth by 12 or so screws, allows me to keep the bumpons, and provides extra rigidity. An LP12/Mana user in the blue place recently reported that this was better than no base, which leads me to suspect that there's something about the Trampolin 2 feet that's problematic on Mana. I plan on getting the solid baseboard the next time my LP12 is in the shop.

Yes with trampoline2 less good, then useless. Trampoline2 works very well on my table Audiotech !

Might I suggest you read some of the replies again then

I suggest you and your 2 likes read the replies again...and then again. Please quote the posts you see.

Again, not one post stating the no base is better than Trampoline 2.

Kind regards.

Tangerine Audio is olanning to release a base board for the LP 12. Another option to consider.

I commented yesterday that "I have my LP12 on a Phase 4 Mana shelf, and I find that no baseboard + 3M bumpons in place of the Linn feet is better than either the original baseboard or the Trampolin 2." My comment is at the bottom of the previous page. But I would agree that this is an outlier. It seems that the once-popular Mana is the only support that doesn't get along with the Trampolin 2.

I only pointed out where the 50/50 came from. You replied to your wife with an argumentative "Might I suggest you read some of the replies again then".

Corry replied after my point. Before then, there was no mention of Tramoplin 2.

Just like to see the forum kept in shape.

That might well be worth auditioning - their top plate is a revelation.

I wonder if the Tangerine base boars is designed to support a Linn Urika?
