Loss of links to playlists

Posted by: Briburu on 17 November 2016

I had to replace my hard drives in my NAS, which my dealer did and transferred my music to new ones. When got home all music is there but can't access my playlists from the I pad through naim app although the picture of the album is there says "can't play track"

is there any way of getting links to work again or do I have to start again?

Are these playlists created on the Naim app, or on the NAS/server?

Hi Chris,

On the naim app

In that case, I think your streamer probably sees the NAS/server as a different device as it may have a different MAC address. Unfortunately that probably means you can't restore the playlists, even though you may have them backed up if you are backing up your iPad. I'm not aware of any way around this, but someone else may have a suggestion??

For future reference, I find it more reliable to create playlists on your server. You lose the convenience of being able to create and edit them from Naim app, although it can still play them.

That's what I thought, thanks for your help, will use server next time.

I don't know how easy it is to use your server to make playlists. Using a Naim server, it's pretty easy as you can go to the N-Serve app on your iPad and do it all from there. I haven't tried doing it on the likes of Asset or Minimserver, but it would be a bit of a hassle to have to fire up a computer every time you want to add a track to a playlist.

I have a Qnap server and use minim so may mean booting up pc to do a playlist, which as you say no fun and not practicable.

A similar thing happened to me recently when the motherboard was changed in my NAS due to network interface failure - in my case the MAC address did change, but in your case it is not as obvious as to why your Naim App playlists failed.
