DIN connector - ground & shielding query

Posted by: uem on 21 November 2016

Dear all,

A query to a rather technical issue:

In the NAIM DIN sockets (or any DIN connection), is the signal ground identical to the “shielding earth” ? or with other words: are the two earth /ground points connected within the respective NAIM units ?

Which would means there is no need to solder the signal ground pin AND the shield in a plug, as they are already common ?

Thanks & best regards

Urs

I would suggest you ring Naim Support and ask the question. I could guess the answer but they will know it. Naim support may not pick up the question from your posting on the public forum.

Of course if you use Naim interconnects then you don't need to worry....

Urs,  there is no specific shielding earth in DIN connections or Naim units.    The common signal negative (-ve) on DIN 5-pin 180deg is on pin #2 & it can be connected to a shield/screen in addition to, or acting as,  the -ve conductor.

Mike,

Thank you - all clear !

Fits with the "one common earth  concept" of NAIM
