What's on your Christmas wish list this year?

Posted by: Loki on 23 November 2016

With Black Friday nearly upon us, cyber Monday around the corner and the advent of, well, Advent, I hope I'm not too early in asking what you are hoping/planning to get to augment your system this Yuletide? Dreams, hopes and more realistic Naim additives are all viable.

I'm dreaming of an 82 Pots8...

After a long long time with my current SU and monitors gold 100s (9 months) a step up seems long over due by any standards. So, after consulting my financial officer and detailing her why we absolutely need to spend a bucket load before this year is a wrap, I have decided for the following:

272 thank you very much, 250 DR of course and a magnificent pair of gorgeous PMC 25.26s.

And if we're still on this realm, I'll take a 911 any model - any year as well.

You seem to have quite a flexible CFO, must have been preceded by some investments in shoes and flowers...

Something fishy going on: far too easy IMHO!

Santa should be busy negotiating  a good repair price for my ns01. Actually he may hold on to that work since the unit has not arrived in Naim HQ yet.

What's gone wrong with it, Claus? This is something I fear!

After a period with unexplained shutdown on it's own, and then failing to save a rip, it finally refused to power up. No lights and no life at all. It may be the power supply or worse the motherboard, but this is pure speculation, until Naim has a look at it.

The higher up the 'Naim ladder' you go, you are inevitably faced by the Law of Diminishing Returns. To improve my system somewhat would require a fair sum (for a humble person like me) which would not be 'passed' by SWMBO. So........

Santa, for Christmas can I win the lottery ??

I want 2016 to be well and truly OVER because I'm tired of losing people I love and/or admire and I'm in despair at the heartlessness of many of my fellow humans. Nothing in hi fi can compare with that.

But otherwise I'll probably get some new portable headphones for when I'm out, as my trusty old B&W P3s are sounding a bit odd. For later in the year, I'd like to upgrade the 172 to a . . . well, whatever comes after the 272. I've decided to wait for the Uniti platform to be applied to the pre/streamers.

These are just the things dreams are made of. Mine, anyway.

The thing I find myself longing for most, lately, is the year 1977 – I was 24, still a promising student at the Conservatory, my girlfriend a splendid girl of 23 (who, at 25, would marry another guy) and my main professor a very competent man of a cultural generation now extinguished. I was vey happy with a Pioneer TT and integrated and second hand AR2ax's. My best friends were still alive, and in spite of the Oil crisis - and some Red Brigades (whatever they were) actions - the world seemed a relatively safe, honest and promising place. I mostly listened to contemporary classical and to the Alan Parsons Project, and wasn't ashamed of either.

Now my main wish is that there is nothing after death, but if there has to be something, it is not like anything they have described us as Heaven or Hell, but if there has to be a Heaven or a Hell perforce, well I wish that St Peter, or Charon, is just like Steven Hopkins.

No suggestions for Satan, then?!

For musicians, it is clear that the Diabolis is already in Musica. Can't be elsewhere since it's not supposed to be omnipresent / omnipotent / omniscient - thats reserved for the opposition.

Yup. The last remaining cannons should only be used in the 1812 Ouverture by Tchaikovsky.
