Does a 2nd hand 252 300 and XPS still need burning in?
Posted by: Harlaquin on 23 November 2016
I am new to Naim and the forum, can someone advice me on speaker choice however i know proof is in the lissoning. I am thinking on getting Bowers and wilkins 804 D3 does anyone know if its a good match? I am also thinking on going straight for the 555dr ps do you think thats the best idea? I am using Chord Company's Sarum which i am happy with... Just keeping it short and sweet.
Thanks in advance
If you are going to use a 252 you will need a Supercap a NAP 300 should come with it's own power supply if bought secondhand they will not require burning in however they will take a few days to get back on song.
Speakers are a very personal choice so ma listen is a must however the 804 D3 should work well provided you like them?
What is the source you are using to play your music ?
How does the topic title relate to your question about speakers ?
Audio equipment knows when it has a new owner so yes, they will need to be burned in again.
Also make sure you allocate 50% of budget for interconnects and speaker wire.
I'm kidding![]()

The answer to your question, sjbabbey, is "loosely".
To Harlequin (the OP) check what PCD says - the XPS you speak about doesn't seem to have a place here, the 252 wants a Supercap, not an XPS or 555PS.
With regard to your speaker choice the B&W 804 D3 is an excellent match to the NAP300; that's my personal experience, but as PCD says, again, it's a personal choice. I hope you're somewhere near a B&W dealer who will allow a home demo. If you're not, then just buy them, you (probably) won't be disappointed ![]()
I was thinking that maybe the XPS mentioned in the topic subject was being used to power the OP's source and that he was considering upgrading his PSU to a PS555DR. Hence, my first question.
Assuming that Harlaquin does indeed have the equipment mentioned in the thread title, then it would help to know what source he will be using and which speakers he currently owns before advising him between a PSU or speaker upgrade.
On the face of it, the B&Ws may well be a good match for his amp subject, of course, to how they interact with his listening room.

I have a supercap dr. The question was is it better to go for the 555ps to to upgrade CDX2 rather than get a XPS, Sorry I did not think it was worthy of mentioning the supercap as the 252 does not work without it.
I have lessoned to a 804 d3 in store and I ,m happy with it.

however its good to hear feedback that I am going in the right direction with 804 d3..
