Power supply capacitors

Hi has naim changed the psu capacitor supplier in the last 15 years .... has technology moved on.....  My amp is a 2000 vintage... and was wondering when it it serviced whether it will have the same psu caps fitted ..... any thoughts..

Well it may depend on the PSU you are referring to here.

Naim support can probably tell you what they would do for a recap of your specific unit. Is this out of curiosity or do you have some specific concern about the current ones?

Richeroo, Naim have changed those caps where they have had to - i.e. the old ones are no longer made.  This happened around 10 or so years back with the big caps in the Hicap and old big amps.  Naim's R&D had to set in motion a project to appraise the suitable replacement caps that were out there and find the best performing replacement. 

It's also worth bearing in mind that many modern caps tend to perform better and last longer.

No just curiosity ....... I know that the psu capacitors can have a fundamental impact on sound presentation.....slit foil etc... and it dawned on me that 15 years is a long time .... just wondered ....
