Cable full loom vs wonky

Posted by: LarsDK on 02 December 2016

hi all, as last upgrade after new speakers (new arts diamond signature) am looking to resolve cables.. System grooves big time so am not trying to solve a problem but more see if system is capable of even more. Now have

- nds ic: SL

- 552-300: standard

- naca5

1) naca5 is legend - anyone ended up w SL ic and xlr or always SL full loom as dream state? Just hard to see std xlr as end state

2) i cannot get to demo SL full loom, but chord sarum. Anyone ended with SL ic and then chord xlr and speaker cable as dream state? If not will only demo chord if possible to trade in SL i think. Dont think can demo chord super sarum which is a shame, still looking.

3) SL full loom - given all the postings clearly not a no brainer, so only option if can demo

many thx

Lars

Assuming the SL speaker cables and the speakers a fully run in, we will just have to wait and see which speaker cables suit the ART Diamond Signature 8.3s the best.

Indeed - choose the ones that sound best.

Personally I found a more important improvement changing DIN-XLR and power line then Speaker cable.

Chord Sarum XLR-DIN and Powerlines was found to be far superior to Naim offerings at that time.

Of course Chord Music changed everything again, for the better. But you know that's my opinion already

I would seriously demo Music just to get an Ideal Scene how it can sound and compromise from that

Thanks all - very good advices! Speakers are ok run-in but of course as FT points out, bass will evolve more. Maybe too soon to demo :-)

main problem so far is the high end which is too much detail, harsh and gets in the way of the music vs very natural and fluid w naca. Also wonder if the seas diamond tweeters are simply even more revealing/resolved and thus more sensitive to this.

will let the system play and report back. Will also write up on speakers - just very busy w work and our newborn girl at home ....

Jonas - I am also trying to demo xlr but seems a bit harder to get. Also very expensive! Interesting that you got best results on those - most report that on speaker cables. Guess supports the full loom argument...

adam - on your naca system, which cables are you using for interconnect, and from pre to power?

thx Lars

NDS > 252: SuperLumina DIN

CDX2.2 > 252: HiLine DIN

SuperCapDR > NAP250DR: Chord Signature Tuned Aray

NAP 250 > Ovators S-400: 2 x 3.5 meters of NACA5 terminated with Naim amp and Ovator plugs

Thanks Adam - so u have the wonky setup :-)

harry - thanks for the detailed insights on your experience

Agree emre - for me xlr is x2 of speaker cable costs

Naca5 is now back and so is the energy, and excitement. Focus is on the music, not the details at the edges. Will let speakers fully runin to spring before trying eg chord ssa. Lard

Sounds like a good plan.

Didn't realise Chord cables benefitted from a bit of lard - presumably you rub it in?

Perhaps Lard could be your new Forum name.

Guess its that season of the year where Lard has its revival :-) wonder how the speakers would benefit from some to loosen up the foam and cones

One can also apply it liberally at speaker connectors - makes everything sound a bit smoother

Doesn't it make the bass sound fat and flabby?

I love the little nuggets of information you get on here

... done as suggested

... living room smells a little funny now though, perhaps it is just the run-in
