BIGGEST EARWORMS of 2016,

Doesn't have to be contemporary.

After the lovely year this has been. Some memorable melodies to stick reminding us all that it's all just fun and games.

for some reasons, Schumann's OP54's final movement stuck in my head for a few days. :/

Haunting lyrics in Bowie's last stand, esp the one about I'm in a dangerous place.  And the very shocking videos when he moves back into the closet, ever theatrical to the end, visually and aurally.

Man In The Fog, piano solo by Jan Lundgren whom I have been exploring extensively during this sweet year:

2016 has been a wonderful musical year for me personally and symbolically.  So many earworms it would be hard for me to remember or recount them all.  However, there are a hand full that I can honestly say that have literally dominated the year meaning I have listened to these selections repeatedly throughout the day / weeks / months straight.  This is all very personal but it is music like this that gives me such inspiration and the will to hope for another day.

1) Danill Trifonov's Liszt album has highlighted the Liszt Etudes for me.  In particular, Il Lamento from the three Etudes de Concert S.144.  This is a piece that hooked me already in my early 20's and now again I cannot get this out of my head.

2) Nelson Freire's Bach album alerted me to a gem that again has been in head constantly and that is the Bach / Siloti transcription of the Organ Prelude in g-minor,  BWV 535.  As fate has it, this is a piece that I am learning currently.  It is absolutely haunting and satisfying to play.

3) 2016 is the year that I finally started seriously listening to the piano music of Tchaikovsky.  It all started with the 2nd movement (Andante) of the Grand Sonata.  Of course, the music score has a home at the piano which is what happens as a result of most earworms.  Easily, this Sonata now is the piece of music I have listened to the most in 2016.

The whole sonata here in four movements:
