So less than 160,000 Tidal/Spotify/Qobuz subscribers in the UK?  Really?

It's tough to pirate an LP.

Most new presses of Vinyl allow a free download of the same music.

I don't think the figures include streaming subscriptions ... it was downloading from sites like iTunes Music Store.

Its also tough to give a download as a gift.

And one more thing ... £2 million sales of vinyl is going to equate to around 100,000 albums sold; £2 million in download sales is more like 200,000 albums.

From the Guardian article...

Forbes [manager of Rough Trade West] admitted he had been surprised by the resurgence in people buying all types of music on record, although he welcomed it as a change from those who, in years past, bought certain heritage albums as a memento rather than to listen to.

“It makes a change from all the people visiting London who always come in just to buy The Clash London Calling on vinyl, which personally we think is a bit moronic,” said Forbes. “And people have always wanted to buy Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl, which is also a bit depressing. People will still be buying ****ing Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl when we’ve all been dead a hundred years.”

He might be a nob ... but I found that particular observation amusing :-)

Totally irrelevant to me as an LP buyer. The downloads are typically mp3 and mastered to an inferior level of SQ. I've got stacks of 'free' download cards with codes never used. How are they 'free' when you've already paid for the album?
