No sound from Blueray via Optical on new Uniticute 2

Posted by: nomoretechnics on 10 December 2016

Hi - Newby here, I have recently bought a Uniticute 2 and everything is working well. I have it hooked up to a pair of Dynaudio Emit M20s and the sound is amazing!

I recently connected my Panasonic BR player via an Optical cable to the Optical Digital in on the Uniticute and immediately the speakers began to produce a hi speed clicking noise. I cant get any sound to play when watching DVDs and have adjusted the PCM settings on the player. I can play CDs and that seems to work fine. I assume there is not fault with the Naim so it must be the BR player or something I have missed in the settings. I have tried different cables and so can also eliminate this as a possible cause.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Not sure which player you have but you may need to switch on pcm down conversion and switch the down mix to stereo

Set the downsampling  in your player to 2-channel stereo PCM.

What you are hearing is DTS /  Dolby surround sound output in native resolution. UnitoQute will not handle the decoding of such files as it's not designed to do so.

You may prefer to connect an optical out from your TV to the UQ instead. This works really well with the Uniti2 that I have.
