Classic FM - help needed.

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 12 December 2016

Dear forum members,

my wife is keeping me on a Classic FM diet. The small kitchen Internet radio is on all day, I wake up with John Rutter and I go to bed with Catherine Jenkins (figuratively speaking, unfortunately); I get home from outside and the Marantz Consolette is playing some choral arrangements of a Christmas classic, all is candlelight, sleigh bells and loving feelings. There's sugar in the air, and at breakfast I just need to keep the mug close to the radio for 10 seconds to have my coffee perfectly sweetened.

How can I avoid diabetic coma? Suggestions welcome,

Thanks

Max

Max, it can't last.  The constant ads for Darwood & Tanner etc.. will surely see to that.  After Christmas try switching over to BBC Radio 3 every now and then and see whether anyone notices...

There is a nice Hard Rock / Heavy Metal internet radio station from Liechtenstein. You could try that....

Catherine Jenkins...had to look her up; for some reason I currently have a feeling my car tires might be over-inflated.

Never mind waiting until after Christmas, I would lose the will to live after 2 weeks of Classic FM. Sobotage that Marantz immediately, and assuage your guilt by buying your wife a QB for Christmas as a replacement.

They say Christmas is about peace on earth. Apparently there is an exception made for you.

You will need to home-audition your borther-in-laws Ovators + Nap 300 in your house. As a music suggestion: Halleluia from 'Messiah' having the volume knob at least at 10, or if you insist in Italian (however I would qualify you more European than Italian) music, Vivaldi's Gloria. Both quite Christmas music.

Intensivate this, all the way to ....

On Christmas morning you can - according to the liturgy (John 1:1) - turn 'Louange à l'Éternité de Jésus' from Messiaen 'Quatuor pour la fin du temps'.

Then gates to hell can be opened (you probably know the history of Messiaens piece of music), follow up on Adams suggestion.

Hi,

been away all day (and spared myself 16 hours of Classic FM). Thanks for all replies and suggestions. Ardbeg10y, I accept being called European with pleasure and some pride. Thanks. I know Messiaen's piece, of course.

I have found a good replacement for the excess of sugar: it's Quiet Village Radio, a station from Hawaii – now the Season definitely tastes of Martini.

Merry Christmas!

Richard, Adam: I'll try alternatives, yes. I must add, to make my mild 'overflow' better understood, that my wife is a choir conductor, and in the last weeks I have enjoyed an overdose of live music too... But she loves it, so I do love it...

Another good station I listen to a lot is: Pepper 96.6 from Athens, Greece. Nice, ecclectic mix of alternative music.

Thanks, I'll try it (on the Consolette..)

Chris, I have thought of a MU-SO, but my wife loves the Consolette.. And it has BMRs:

so more like a mini-Ovator than the MU-SO..
