Sorry to hear that Paul is leaving Naim. After years working alongside Julian Vereker, he took over as the boss after JV's untimely death.

He looked after Naim till recently, handing over the reins to Trevor Wilson last year, I think, moving to the role of Chairman.

Noone should underestimate the difficulty of the task presented to him in 2000. Many things changed in that decade and this one -- the arrival of the big Naim amps (500, 300, 552, 555) at a significantly higher price point than before, the arrival of network streaming with the NaimNet, HDX and UQ. The Uniti range. The Ovator speakers. The "new era" electronics that lead to Superline, Statement, and thus DR. The Naim for Bentley systems. No-one can claim he rested on his laurals

He and I have had some furious arguments over the years. And yet he is always welcome to visit for a pint and dinner.

I will miss him, as I'm sure will many.

But best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

Paul

Wishing you all the best, in whatever you choose to do,

I wasn't around in the JV days, so can only read in astonishment what you managed to do (along with a fab team) to keep Naim on its journey after his death.

For my / Signals’ part I have only known Naim in the post JV era.

From the beginning of our involvement, the enthusiasm and warmth of the Salisbury team was striking. It’s unique and very inspiring. This might have its roots in JV’s ethos but Paul clearly carried it forward despite the substantial growth scale and product diversity.

Relationships are everything and the spirit of the Naim family is something truly special. It certainly did us no harm to hang on the coat tails!

So well done Paul on what you have achieved. Enjoy your new-found peace!

Naim's character cannot be bottled or, as Phil has put it, ‘procedurised’. It needs to be maintained, grown & nurtured. Hopefully, this is appreciated by the team who have the tough gig of taking a much larger and more complex company forward in an increasingly hostile world.

Paul,

You have my highest respect, and deeply felt gratitude for your role in guiding this world class company, Naim.  You must know more than anyone how much Naim's success and achievements are due to the passion, commitment and talents of so many team members - yet it is the mark of a great leader that such a diverse group of high energy and talented people can flourish and contribute to collective success.

Being retired myself, I can assure you how wonderful it is to back away from the daily and sometimes stressful pace of commitments.  You will surely find ways to engage in those creative and collaborative endeavors, which are so satisfying, but at a slower and more graceful pace.

All the Best to You!

Charlie

Thank you for your leadership, Paul. It may seem trivial but I always thought the letters from you when we register a new product were a great touch. Very best wishes in whatever you choose to do next.

Chris - I agree - and the new product registration letters are a nice touch and in many ways epitomises the Naim character - Paul - I only met you once - but you have a great following - enjoy your retirement - or next chapter of your career... -

Good luck on your retirement Paul. You can happily rest on your laurels & be content with all you've acheived for Naim. Us customers owe you a great debt of gratitude. Oh, and if anyone tells you retirement is boring, they couldn't be more wrong!

Thanks for keeping me poor but very happy. You've been inspirational.

Hi Paul

A voice from the past - Mick Parry.

The wife has left me for the evening, she's gone to a flower club meeting and I now have the house to myself for a few hours, so I have been sipping whisky and listening to the Naim system which thanks to yourself and a few others I have enjoyed for more hours than I can ever recall.

Enjoy your retirement, it will seem strange at first and it may take a while to get used to it but once you do, you are going to have the best time of your life.  The best advice is just to do whatever you fancy and in my case it is spending a lot of time in Spain and I have been doing it for six years and am loving it.

Anyway, have a good retirement and you are going to go down in Hifi history as the man who took over from JV and made Naim even better and that is something to be proud of.

Many Regards

Mick

Enjoy your very well deserved retirement - and here's hoping venture capital doesn't ruin what you have done.

To Paul, I want to thank your for managing a superb business and developing a winning team to design and bring to market such wonderful products.  Naim has brought, and continues to enhance my enjoyment of music.  I wish you all you wish for in your well-earned retirement.

Paul,

It was a privilege to have met you in 2010 at our NZ Naim conference. To hear your life story and how you ended up at Naim, what it was like in those very early days and the challenges the company faced and over came was inspirational. To find you are a Bob Dylan fan was the icing on the cake.

I remember you saying.."If a hi fi system can't capture the rhythm and emotion in 'Love Sick'..it's shit!" Brilliant.

Maybe you might get down to our part of the World again for a spot of fly fishing..

All the best.

Ricky.

Paul,

I first came to the UK in early 1991 - and promptly fell in love with Naim. For a poor chap from Poland the boxes were unobtainable. But I loved it so much I said to myself 'one day I will have this'.

It took me a while, but you were patient with me. And grew the compay in the meantime and made even more fabulous boxes.

So thank you for keeping my dream alive. Much appreciated.

Paul:

Congratulations for a very happy and dare I say productive retirement. I have met and talked to you at a couple of Hi Fi shows and you were always filled with enthusiasm for the music, always the music. Naim will not be the same without you, but you leave it in a wonderful and stable state.

All the very best.

Tim

From a fairly recent Naim purchaser with a 'lower end' system - this is still the best music reproducer I have ever owned and it brings a smile to my face whenever it's turned on.

It is amazing what pleasure your ears can bring you when audio reproduction is moved from functional to emotional.

I wish you all the best for a wonderful next chapter of your life, and like others hope this is not the start of profit margins over quality

I don't subscribe to the negative comments about venture capital in this thread.  From what I can see Paul has guided Naim to a home where it has the resources to address the revolution sweeping the industry and the opportunity to continue to deliver the best of the best in home audio reply.

The examples which demonstrate this should be obvious to all and have already been mentioned - as already has been said this is no mean feat.

Do you have an OBE already?  Wider public recognition is certainly deserved.

With best wishes

Olly

Paul,

Thanks for producing devices that allow me to enjoy my music, and for ensuring Naim kept transforming to keep pace with the musical trends.

All the best for the future.

I can only echo the comments already posted.

Thank you so much for steering the ship, and for the immense musical pleasure I continue to experience from my Naim system.

Aw ra best, pal.

Just my opinion, but NAIM is in amongst the best position for continued success thanks to you. No one else and I am an obsessive researcher has as compelling a streaming and digital proposition. This is both from a immersive sound quality experience as well as an ease of use application level as NAIM. I have no other possession that brings me as much happiness, relaxation and engagement as my amazing main NAIM system and my satellite QB. The surprising thing is the QB has brought music to other areas of my day to the point that relatively inexpensive device is really monumental.. it is very impressive stuff you should be extremely proud. Top to botttom very impressive things over the last few years.
