Music on Special Offer Thread?

Posted by: sjt on 14 December 2016

I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer.

As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke of luck it was on special offer at just over half price. Deluxe edition is cheaper than the standard edition! I bought it straight away.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to posting albums that are on special offer at the moment with not-so-subtle hints as to where you could get them from, when the offer expires and how much is knocked off etc, so people could see instantly anything that was on special. It would certainly be a thread I would come back to often.

I did a search and couldn't find anything like this in the forum, but usually the searches on these forums are rubbish so this is not a guarantee!

There might need to be a few rules, e.g. the poster has no affiliation with the seller, only legitimate download shops / sites etc.

Just a thought still in the half-bakery...

You're most welcome, it's a cracking collection and I'm sure some kind if pricing error. It's £77.88 on Qobuz

Downloaded with HDTracks discount and sorted into individual albums with cover art. Then looking for Velvet Darkness. I see 7digital are doing this package for £11.99. Which beats HDTracks by a fiver.

£11.99 for nearly 100 tracks in 24/96 by the legendary Allan Holdsworth is just criminal.

Thanks very much for this - downloading from 7Digital now!

I must confess to having gone a bit Bert in the Qobuz sale (especially when combined with the Sublime discounts).

Something worth highlighting though, is this - Clearlight's Symphony II. It's a nice bit of French instrumental symphonic prog much in the style of early Mike Oldfield (even though it dates from 1990). There's a 20 minute track featuring Tim Blake, Didier Malherbe and Steve Hillage too.

And it's...£0.96p!

Bert is a legend.

Great tip re. Clearlight given the price and featured guests (Tim Blake, Didier Malherbe and Steve Hillage) - the latter being one of the great under-rated guitarists.

All of know is that, if I'm naughty in this life, I'll be reincarnated as Bert's NAS.

More labels added to the Qobuz sale, I think. Don't recall seeing Universal, Capitol or Blue Note before.

Posted on: 19 August 2017 by Nick Lees

Capitol and Blue Note were added earlier, but the Universal addition is massive, 61 pages (OK lots of Charles Aznavour towards the end) including Beck, Lennon, Rush, Who, Stones, Velvets, early Scott Walker, Nick Drake, Rush, Donna Summer, Grace Jones etc. etc.

And more classical than you could shake a stick at.

Good call sir.

I'm not going to look. I spent £100 on Vivaldi albums on Naïve at £3.60 each a couple of days ago.

GBP 3.60 was enough since all Vivaldi works sound the same.

Just been looking at The BNF Collection in the Qobuz sale. 41,555 albums, no less, all 50% off. Annoyingly you can't search by genre but it's mainly classical.

Only 45 euros when you are on Qobuz sublime...

Highresaudio.com has now a deal in which you buy a voucher of a value of 50 euros or more and you get a value back of 10 percent more. If you frequently buy at this site then it might be a good 10% discount. For one thing they do have in general the cheapest ECM high resolution albums....

Interesting last week you could get it for days for 45 euros. Now a special deal and you would pay over 70 euros, I think I missed something....

Not a specific special offer, but I have found Chandos records to be fairly consistently cheaper than most other high res and flac sites. For example, I just bought "This England" - Works by Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Britten by the Oregon Symphony and Carlos Kalmar. On Qobuz and HRA it was about 15 pounds in Flac 24/96, but on Chandos it was £9.79.

Just downloaded the 'new' Neil Young album Hitchhicker on 7Digital in their Deals of the Week section (which is always worth a visit) 16bit for £7.99.

Sometimes the prices in the U.K. are surprisingly low, I should have an UK account as well.

A UK account is a good idea. I've nailed some ridiculous bargains around Christmas time with a UK account. Lou Reed's RCA catalogue in Hi Res plus Beethoven 1-9, and change from twenty quid. My original French account doesn't always pick up the lowest prices.

So how do I create an UK account. I more or less mentioned it as a joke, but realized that the U.K. Offers are sometimes very very good ?
