Music on Special Offer Thread?

Posted by: sjt on 14 December 2016

I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer.

As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke of luck it was on special offer at just over half price. Deluxe edition is cheaper than the standard edition! I bought it straight away.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to posting albums that are on special offer at the moment with not-so-subtle hints as to where you could get them from, when the offer expires and how much is knocked off etc, so people could see instantly anything that was on special. It would certainly be a thread I would come back to often.

I did a search and couldn't find anything like this in the forum, but usually the searches on these forums are rubbish so this is not a guarantee!

There might need to be a few rules, e.g. the poster has no affiliation with the seller, only legitimate download shops / sites etc.

Just a thought still in the half-bakery...

'up to 40% off' sax albums on Qobuz. Mostly jazz. However some of those listed haven't been reduced and at least one - The Epic, by Kamasi Washington - isn't available.

I figured there must be some christmas promotions on, so had a very cursory look.

Just noticed eclassical has 50% off 4 albums per day in an advent calendar style thing.

Qobuz has a few offers on, including the whole 'Vivaldi edition' at various prices from <£3.

Anyone spotted any other offers?  Previous christmases have sometimes thrown up free music...

Linn is doing a 24 Bits Of Christmas promotion.

I've bought some really wicked bargains from Qobuz in previous Decembers. Watch that space.

Posted on: 07 December 2017 by Dave***t

Are they? Had a quick look at the site and didn't see anything. Do you have a link?

Posted on: 07 December 2017 by Harry

Correction - Linn are doing a Christmas promotion. I just downloaded Dunedin Consort: J.S. Bach: Christmas Oratorio (Bonus Tracks) in 24/192. I don't know if that's it for this year from Lin.

Sorry again. Turns out that was a leftover from last year.

What do they say about the road to hell.....?

Posted on: 07 December 2017 by Dave***t

Nope, still working, I'm downloading it in 24/192 now.

Splendid, thanks for the tip.

Qobuz have a 25% discount on the ACT label.

This one seems to be wrongly priced though, IDA Sand - Meet Me Around Midnight for only £0.80!

I'd buy it if I didn't have it already!

An odd price rather than special offer:

Morton Feldman - Piano And String Quartet (the Kronos Quartet version)

Qobuz £1.99

http://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/alb...uartet/0603497094769

The Big Sell (cough): this is a weird, dreamy, slightly creepy piece that's barely there to start with, and doesn't really go anywhere, but I found it highly addictiveand it's the one that got me into Feldman. The video below isn't the Kronos version but good enough to show you what it's about...

I just got an email from Qobuz about box sets. The stand out bargains are Lou Reed for £22 (down from £163, not quite as good as the happy days from this time last year!) and Roger Waters (£11, down from £35 - I bought it).

Ordered, thank you! IIRC Qobuz can be a bit troublesome with larger downloads; I have distant memories of having to download one of the big Dylan Bootleg Series track by track, so if anybody has recent positive experience getting the Lou box it would be reassuring.

Odd that, I got an e-mail from Qobuz this morning about the ACT label offer but not about box sets. Is there anything else in the box set offer?

Re: the above, the Lou Reed set is available for £14:99 in hi-res for subscribers, the Roger Waters at £11:49 in CD-res.

Thanks for the info,
