Music on Special Offer Thread?

Posted by: sjt on 14 December 2016

I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer.

As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke of luck it was on special offer at just over half price. Deluxe edition is cheaper than the standard edition! I bought it straight away.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to posting albums that are on special offer at the moment with not-so-subtle hints as to where you could get them from, when the offer expires and how much is knocked off etc, so people could see instantly anything that was on special. It would certainly be a thread I would come back to often.

I did a search and couldn't find anything like this in the forum, but usually the searches on these forums are rubbish so this is not a guarantee!

There might need to be a few rules, e.g. the poster has no affiliation with the seller, only legitimate download shops / sites etc.

Just a thought still in the half-bakery...

Not quite a special offer but Vocalian Dutton are doing a (very) reasonably priced range of SACD Hybrid Multi Channel discs. Just received my order of Art Garfunkel's Breakaway CD - I don't have SACD equipment but the new remastering by Michael Dutton on my standard CD player is outstanding and what a lovely album.

Thank you. Venus and Mars is not on any all time list of mine, but for 49p it would be rude not to.

Heck is there an offer section with those?

Posted on: 18 January 2018 by Alley Cat

In the sense of how do you randomly come across those bargains?

Posted on: 18 January 2018 by Motel Blues

I put 24 in the search field, then narrowed the results down to stuff under a fiver, then filtered it further by genre and resolution. Still a lot to sift through, but perhaps worth the effort.

Many thanks Motel Blues - got the Maria Callas bargain and a few others last year but good to see that technique.

Like earlier it’s kind off odd to see that those prices only happen in the UK, I have never seen those kind of glitch’s under other European accounts.....

I noticed these posts late last night and ended up going to bed much later than anticipated.  Having acquired quite a few of them I now feel like a bit of a thief!!  Someone at Qobuz got this badly wrong!

Except they’ve suddenly sold 100 or even 1000, when they would otherwise have sold 10.

You could always take out a Sublime subscription to assuage those guilty feelings.

And they will have loads of new members join - myself included.

Presumably Qobuz must pay a fixed amount to the record labels managing each of the albums.  Selling thousands of them could mount up to a significant loss, unless they have a specific agreement in place in some high brow promotional theory!

I did have the Sublime subscription but I found I was only really using it to purchase albums at the Sublime discount prices - not very applicable right now!  My daily pattern/ old dog new tricks mentality doesn't really sit well with streaming.  If I can make the leap I'd renew my subscription in a flash.
