Music on Special Offer Thread?

Posted by: sjt on 14 December 2016

I am wondering if it would be legit to have a thread in here dedicated to music album downloads from legitimate retailers that are currently on special offer.

As an example I was just looking through the what are you listening to mega thread just now and came across the Melody Gardot record because someone was listening to it. I have wanted this for a while but it was always expensive (about 20 quid). On a whim I went over to a place I usually go to buy music downloads and by a blind stroke of luck it was on special offer at just over half price. Deluxe edition is cheaper than the standard edition! I bought it straight away.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to posting albums that are on special offer at the moment with not-so-subtle hints as to where you could get them from, when the offer expires and how much is knocked off etc, so people could see instantly anything that was on special. It would certainly be a thread I would come back to often.

I did a search and couldn't find anything like this in the forum, but usually the searches on these forums are rubbish so this is not a guarantee!

There might need to be a few rules, e.g. the poster has no affiliation with the seller, only legitimate download shops / sites etc.

Just a thought still in the half-bakery...

Just received an email from Sound Liaison, their winter sale has 50% off DSD and 33% off their fine PCM & FLAC recordings.

http://www.soundliaison.com

It makes all recordings in any format available at 10€ each until the 14th of Jan ! A real bargain for some really great music. Two more in my basket to complete the set !

I can throughly recommend a listen.

Agree Bandcamp is a wonderful resource, lots of artists who otherwise would find it difficult to get their music widely available. Site allows you to stream albums before you buy and the prices tend to be very realistic. As you say there are a number of albums available on a 'name your price' basis, but i think this is different to being 'free' - although you can pay nothing. At the end of the day, the music is the result of someones hard work and skill and i think we've got to respect that.

I get torn by this. On the one hand I spend a lot on music (and I mean a lot, though not in Bert's league) and sometimes think "I'll take advantage this time". On the other hand I love new music, I can't make it myself, so I want others to get fair recompense for doing it, so uunless it's really poor I'll pay for other albums by them. And feel mildly guilty.

If anyone spots Andras Schiff's box of Beethoven piano sonatas please let me know. The cd set is £65 on Amazon, but I'd rather download it than rip it and put a nice box set in the loft to melt in the summer.

Inspired by the previous post I discovered that you buy the complete Beethoven piano sonatas played by Ronald Brautigam for 19,99 euro on Qobuz. Although it is not a special offer. This seems like a good deal te me.

I can't think of a better recommendation, a classic cool jazz of Gerry Mulligan piano-less quartet under $3 for a new CD on Amazon:

QOBUZ have an offer on box sets at the moment.  Just downloading the Maria Callas box set 24/96 £7.34!!!

Could you point the way to the offer please? I have searched the site but can't find the promotion. Thanks.

Just search under Maria Callas. I just looked at this and it's an incedible bargain, but somehow 39 albums seems too many.

Going to take hours to download and sort out!!!  Nothing else planned for this weekend :-)

Just trawled through the first 500 and unable to find a single one worth buying (apart from those I already own). I suspect these are all the ones they buy for 12p a time from punters, the better ones fetching far more and thus excluded from the sale. What's the old saying about if it's too good to be true.........?!

Thanks Nigel.

I was looking more for the box sets offer than the Callas one in particular. Not my cuppa.

I has a similar anomaly with the Lou Reed collection. I already had a French account. I had to go in anonymously and set up another account on the UK website to get the offer. So we now have two accounts and Lou's collection for eight and a bit quid

Just finished retagging the Callas box set. This looks like a wonderful collection - 39 full albums in total. The three pdf booklets, including Libretti, are also great.  I extracted the individual album covers from one of the booklets and tidied up the tags to fit in with how I store my classical CDs rips/downloads.  I am in for a "cultured" evening!  :-) ...
