Stacking order - again

Posted by: reAnimate on 14 December 2016

I'm about to take delivery of a second-hand NAC282 and its associated power supply.

I already have a Rega RP3, Rega PSU, Rega phono, NDX, Flatcap 2 and NAP150

What is the ideal stacking order for:

a) single rack

b) dual rack

Thanks.

You already have 6 components. And I suspect you will want to try HiCap with your 282.

I recommend 2 stacks: brain on the left, brawn on the right.

Yip, agreed.

But for now, until I buy another rack, what order?

You might want to seriously consider a wall shelf for the TT. Not just a sonic benefit but will also allow you to optimise stacking with either one or two racks. The received wisdom is two racks as Adam says. But this is down to cost and space available. For me, two racks works. I have Superline and TT PSU on top of the brawn stack. My cap is top on the left stack with the pre below, nap on the bottom.

Do have a search as there are many detailed posts on stacking from simple to complex systems.

That looks about right to me. I started out with my NDX above the 282, but putting the pre on top improved things a bit. My NAPSC is on the floor though, I can't be bothered to give it a whole shelf.

Seven items on seven shelves seems like a lot, so if you were sticking with one stack, I guess a TT wall shelf could make sense, although personally I think they look ugly.

I would move the power amp higher up the stack, with power supplies at the bottom.

Be willing to experiment.  I would want to try the 282 under TT, TT Preamp under 282, and NAPSC on the bottom.

Yes, I always thought it was advised to keep napsc as far away from preamp as possible.

I would have thought the larger transformers in the power amp and Flatcap would be best sited furthest from the 'brain' boxes, but that's just guesswork on my part.

When I had my 282, NAPSC resided on a floor, away from all other components.
