Naim app 5.0
Posted by: Dave Smart on 16 December 2016
now on iOS App Store delete old app and download from store, you get version 5.0.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I found that I had to delete 4.9 before I could download 5.0. Going to the app store without deleting 4.9 just showed the option to open the app, not to update.
Installed. Core, appear!
Any one have any initial thoughts before I jump in and download it?
I'm a little cautious about "new" things!
Seems OK to me so far...
Yup, seems fine. UI seems better imo. D
I have a problem with 5.0: in version 4.9 I could access a large number of podcasts 'underneath' a live radio station (in my case 'Deutschlandradio Kultur'), by clicking on the small station preset when it's already playing: a long list of headings, and underneath them the actual podcasts, showed up (a nifty feature!). In version 5.0 just the station is reloaded... Is there another way to get to the podcasts in 5.0, please?

I assume this is a shortcoming of the vTuner service. The amount of material available from BBC radio On Demand is small compared to what's on the iPlayer radio app.
Downloaded and look forward to setting it up later!
The search icon in Tidal when you access your playlists is gone on the iPhone app. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

Can you see the search bar if you swipe down the main screen?
Are you looking at a short list of 10 items or less, in which case there is no search option?
All seems a bit broken for me. Last night I was using the previous version, with Mulit Room on, controlled form my Muso but playing in perfect sync with my Uniti 1 in a different room.. Downloaded Vn 5 on my iPad and iPhone this morning - now wishing I hadn't!
I have control of the Uniti from my iPad and control of the Muso from the iPhone. However, the option to choose which Naim device to control from either iDevice seems to have completely disappeared? Bug or am I missing something obvious?
Delete the app completely and reinstall it. The ability to switch should then appear.
Question - if you delete the app 4.9 then surely all the saved Radio stations will also be deleted..?
Correct?
It's visible as an update in the App Store for me ...

The list of podcast for the Danish national stations have for a long time been much smaller than what is available from the station webpage, podcast or there own app. This seem to be the same for several stations unfortunately.

It didn't for me CSI_Basel. Deleted 4.9, loaded 5.0, and all the iRadio presets on the front screen were still there.
It didn't carry across the couple of Playlists I had saved on the home screen though, so beware if you have some extensive Playlists saved there. I just had a couple of test playlists so I wasn't that bothered by it.
Naim App V5.0 installed and initially appears to be working as before. Nice new set up welcome screen, seems snappier and quicker to load UPnP Asset / album artwork when using an older iPhone 5S, which is welcome (haven’t tried on an iPad yet). All internet Radio presets automatically retained and I like the new Uniti wallpaper too. I never really bother with playlists (not yet anyway), so no experience of their use with the new app.
So far so good!
Updated this morning (no need to delete old app). Initially it found my UPnP servers (Asset, Minimserver) but no indication of which streamer/room it was connected (I have a UQ2 and an NDS in different rooms). These did eventually turn up after a couple of minutes so may have just been a slight delay in finding them on the network.
Generally, although there isn't a lot of difference to the new look my initial impression is that the app interface is a bit tidier.
I have no icon for the Phono input?
Deleted app and reinstalled but still not there!
Can still select it by taping where it should be though.
Just removed the old version and installed 5.0.
Oh dear, ................ it seems to have wiped out all my saved albums in Tidal .......... but wait .................go into the top right "button", select "My Music" .............. and whew, there they are after all.
So, if this happens to you, don't panic, they're still there, just hiding.
Minor gripe though, I can't figure out the volume control options.
I'm used to having this showing only on the "now playing" page, by selecting "bottom bar volume control" only. Hmm, it seems I have to choose the "show volume control" instead to achieve this, which results in the volume control appearing on both pages.
Oh well, not the end of the world, and the new version seems quicker at picking up my streamer, so it's all good.

If anyone uses iTunes to back up their iPhone, the playlists should be in the backup. I've never actually tried to restore from it, but they're in there.
Alternatively, transfer the playlists to another Naim app device, then transfer them back after the update if they vanish.
Ah. Deleted the previous version of the app I had on the old iphone 4 I use as a backup remote, ready to install the new version. Then realised that it requires a newer version of iOS than the phone supports.
Spose I'll just have to wait for the Android version then!
Any idea how to see your streamers?
I have a Superuniti and a Muso. The app is connected to the SU, but I don't see which button allows me to switch to the Muso?
And ..... finding rooms now sorted after deleting and re-installing Vn 5. For those concerned about deleting, my favourites under iRadio were all retained. Only problem was that both devices disappeared a short while later. Complete restart of my network inwards from the superhub inwards seems to have sorted things.
