Naim app 5.0
Posted by: Dave Smart on 16 December 2016
now on iOS App Store delete old app and download from store, you get version 5.0.
David,
I have had the NServ app being used by 4 people simoultaneously during a social evening where we were all surfing the genres/albumes etc and adding/re-ording the play queue.
Are you saying this is different with the Naim app.

You have to close the Naim app on one device before you open it on another. You can switch between as many as you like on different iOS and Android devices, though.
Chris,
That is pretty unfriendly and useless - why would you want to switch!
... and I believe the UnitiCore is going to use this new Naim app - will have to keep my UnitiServ / NServ for as long as possible by the sound of it.

PS the "unfriendly and useless" comment was aimed at the Naim app, not you Chris
Am I missing something? It seems that the 'header' of the app is missing ... the part on the top is black on iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5S. But probably been mentioned before ...

Close the app by double click home button and swiping upwards and then re-open. You should find its ok after that.

BTW why are all these issues being raised in this forum; is there not some Naim pipeline for reporting these issues?
I hope its not just the Naim support email - it might be getting a little busy just now
I also note that the Naim App 4.8 topic is still in the streaming forum featured topics - no mention of 5.0 here.
Hi David, thak you for your reply , unfortunately this did not help...

Oh, that would be the Naim software 12-Step group...

Ok. Did it work ok when you first installed the update? If not, then I suggest you delete the app completely and reinstall it. If it did work ok initially then I would restart your streamer and restart the app again too.

And thank you David, I may give the Android app another go...it's not like I plan to have a device in each hand sending requests, so I can try and if the issues I had last time are still extant, I will just uninstall it again.
Deleted the app and re-installed it. Now it can't find my mu-so anymore ...
I'm getting tired of this
Added the room manually, but no header still... hope Naim will release an update soon...

I'm getting tired of this
I deleted/re-installed the App because when i searched an album some would not show properly. You could see the tidal link to other albums, but you could not pull the screen down to see the actual album info. Now, nothing!! no rooms found. I have a NAC172XS and my son has a QB.
I ran into this problem once with the most recent beta and found that selecting "find my rooms" on the screen that says "no rooms found" did sort it out immediately. And it became progressively smoother on its own over the next day. Now the released version finds all my 5 rooms quickly or even immediately.
if you can't get it to work then I suggest restarting your router, both your streamers and your iPhone. In that order and wait for each to finish before you turn on the next.

Split view is a bit problematic.....
On landscape orientation-Naim app only works if it is on the left side of the screen.
If you have Safari already open in landscape view and then swipe left to bring up the Naim app, then Naim app freezes and eventually crashes! Safari also crashes! So if Naim is on right side in split view, it freezes and crashes.
Thanks.

Thank you for your patience, everything is working fine now
All running smoothly here, no discovery issues, freezes or crashes to speak of. I've been using mainly UPnP, Tidal and iRadio and presets, search functions and general navigation work fine.
No multi room items here though.
(Unitiserve/NDX using iPod Touch with current iOS for that device)
No issues here. No need to reinstall and straight upgrade.

I'm not sure this particular issue would be a deal breaker for me, but it would certainly be nice to have the option to keep the app open on multiple devices for 'social' listening. I have a friend who likes to do this, but he is a big Spotify fan, so he can keep Spotify open while I mess around with the Naim app and UPnP/Tidal. When he hits play, I just have to switch inputs to connect him.

I am currently happy using the NServ app but even there some simple issues are just stupid; for example, why is strict alphabetic ordering used - it is not rocket science to ignore the prefix "the " when ordering ... even worse is that you actually need to know the forenames of artists or composers since they don't order by surname - I would have failed my students if they had done something so crass
It's up to the server to send info such that "the" can be ignored. That is an easy setting on both Asset and Minimserver. The Beatles appear under B for me with each of those.
If you're using n-Serve, I trust that you're using a UnitiServe or HDX; neither of those support dealing with the "the" as you wish, I believe.

I have done this now and everything seems in order. Thanks David.

Internet radio presets are spaced out way too much which means more scrolling and also has a pointless 'Internet Radio' subtext (no shit sherlock).
Also, to access the list of radio stations, you need to tap the iRadio icon now.
Why cant Naim put a little 'how to' guide up here whenever they change things?
Not really that difficult.
The "pointless" text distinguishes between FM Radio, DAB Radio and Internet Radio.
I find this extremely useful, if I want to free up bandwidth for other Internet users I simply tune into the FM radio station.
If there are any drop outs listening to a station, it might be due to other Internet users using loads of bandwidth so I can switch to FM.
If any one method of listening fails or broadcasts are interrupted, it means I can try one of the other broadcast methods, knowing exactly what I was listening to.
Not pointless at all in my opinion.
Bart - read my previous post, it is not up to the server - client can do what it likes.
I notice Naim have put out the version 5 announcement, a little late perhaps :;

I guess we're talking past each other. I don't doubt that the Naim App could be written to customize how the end-user wants to deal with the "the." As could Naim server software. You can blame either I suppose if you use both and are stuck with all of the the's under T. But the Naim App, controlling a server that does deal with the "the," is happy to show The Beatles under B, not T, as "Beatles, The."
Yes, in 2016, almost 2017, this should be standard fare in any environment.
Ver 5.0 is totally stable in my home environment, but I have had my issues in the past and totally know the frustration when it isn't. My wife's "you paid that much and can't play music" comment was pretty telling; that was over 2 years ago and hasn't been uttered since I adopted a $300 nas as a server with Asset or Minim as HH counseled for many months prior.

Nope.
Its still pointless, especially on the Muso as it only has an iRadio tuner, which uses very little bandwidth anyway.
