Me, I dream of a world in which the app doesn't revert to the base upnp menu whenever and for however long you leave it. These things are irritating when you have only one source.

Yes, I have just discovered this. A great feature.

This is a nice feature - it's a shame that the amount of material available on Tidal is so variable though. People knock Rovi, but from there you can normally see the artist's full discography in date order (plus links to Wikipedia, etc.) If only you could play all that lot, rather than just read about it, I'd be really impressed.

Well, in my collection - and using the MinimServer - I would find his music by filtering composers by "Rimsky" .... does not matter how I have spelled Nikolai/Nikolay ...

Would this not work for you?

Perhaps they're about to replace it with a new white one?!

I’ve started encountering a repeat problem today where the Naim app seems to lose the UPnP server (Asset) after the run time of an album in the chosen queue and either takes an age to find or show the UPnP icon again - or more than likely not at all. The app having to be relaunched just to get back to UPnP and choose an album! Infuriating. In the morning I’ll try a system wide reboot of router, Mac Mini, ‘Qute, iPhone, and the app re-install to see if that helps. Annoying as it was stable before.

Other than that, no sudden crashes or untoward bugs encountered.

I'm also finding that the app loses connectivity with the server and has to reconnect after a short period of time of non use i.e. I'm listening to the music and not using the app.

As an aside I lost all my playlists as part of the upgrade process. Can any of the more knowledgeable types point me in the direction of how to save a playlist to some other place so I can reload it if I lose it again. Can't see anything obvious from within the app.

Thanks in advance.

You can restore the app, with its playlists, from an iTunes backup of your iPhone. It's been some time since I've tried this, so I can't say for sure that it still works, but you could give it a try.

Alternatively, there's a simple way to do a manual backup if you can put the Naim app on another device: Play the playlist, so that it becomes a Play Queue. Close the app. Open the app on another device, where you will see the same Play Queue. Save it as a new playlist on that device. You can do this before an app update in future in case you lose them, but too late for this time, I'm afraid!

this is very worrying as a prospective purchaser of NDS/NDX and a software developer of 45 years standing.

This should not happen - is the software development team in-house or has it been outsourced?

Um, Err....

I've only been in software development for 37 years but have to admit our profession is not entirely blameless.

50% of our time is spent in correcting errors in our software.

As an example Windows 10 has been a disaster for serious users (which over a year after its release has been almost sorted).

Yes, this is a cock up but software developers will understand.

Of course, as a customer/user I'm really pissed off.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I did try the restore function from ITunes but it did not appear to be able to just restore the playlists so I abandoned that route. I am all MS in this house (1 Apple device that is used as an expensive remote for my SU) so I may have to either purchase another apple device or ask one of the family if they would oblige. Problem with the latter is that they no longer live at home. I have just about remade the playlists so nearly there. Roll on the MS version of the app.....but that is another thread.

My thanks again

DWO, Next time you could always borrow an iPhone, iPad or Android device just in case. It would be nice if there was an automated method though, particularly as the app playlists also seem prone to corruption.

I now create and manage playlists on my server instead of the app, which seems to be reliable, although a little less convenient.

Hi Chris,

I like the idea of managing the playlist from my server (I use Synology and have both Synology and Minim servers loaded - tend to use Minim) as my server backups are much easier to restore when required. I do have a BBC Radio playlist on my server from when the BBC was changing its streaming format so I'll look at moving my playlists to my server - if I can remember how.

As an aside I have noticed that there are one or two upnp control apps appearing in the windows store now - not up to a usable standard as yet IMHO but definately improving.

I use a Naim server, which makes it very easy to switch to the N-Serve app to manage playlists. My guess is that it's a bit more of a faff using other UPnP servers, especially if you have to fire up a computer every time.

It concerns me that the new Naim server uses the Naim app instead of N-Serve, so if the app playlist function becomes the only option, that's a problem, as in my experience, it has always been unreliable. Not a problem for you, though.

Hi DWO,

I am using an application called Playlist Creator to create M3U playlists that I store on my NAS and that MinimServer then can surface in the Naim app in a similar way to your playlist with BBC HLS radio stations. It's a bit old, but works perfectly on Windows 10 (Home edition) and with the lastest Synology DiskStation DSM update. It was recommended as one of two or three different applications on the MinimServer forum.

I agree that it would be better if the Naim app playlist could be stored somewhere (e.g. on the NAS or on the device) where it could be prevented from deletion when uninstalling the Naim app, as this requires a bit more work.

Hope that helps.

/Peter

Hi guys - If you connect your iOS device that is running the Naim app to iTunes - go into Apps and select the Naim app in iTunes - the files associated with the App are displayed.

These are Playlists created with the Naim app. In iTunes you can then save to your local machine or your NAS, back them up/archive them etc.

You also reintroduce, overwrite them etc. if you want to reinstall or recover.

All possible from iTunes - it was documented somewhere on the forum before.

Simon.

Brand new Mu So owner here which I've had for 10 days.

May have already been mentioned but I noticed that the previous version of the Naim app wouldn't do split screen on my iPad, but the new one does. Great addition as it allows you to control the system without leaving what you're doing such reading emails or web browsing. You just swipe from the right hand side of the screen and the Naim app appears in a compressed format. :-)

That's what I was referring to above. I had a quick look yesterday but couldn't make it work, or even find the playlist backup folder any more, iTunes seems to have changed since last time I tried.

I use an iPhone so split screen is not much use here but (just in case you don't know about this) ...

pressing the hardware home button twice quickly brings up the app selection menu so you can switch between what you are currently doing  and the Naim app and vice-versa very quickly.

Just like the Alt-Tab keystroke in Windows.

I also now dream of a world in which this [various choice descriptive terms omitted] app manages to retain its connection to my NDX. Frankly, not reverting to the root upnp menu seems like a distant luxury at this point.

Agree that this was the best prior to 5.0 on the iPad  (and still is on the phone), but this split screen option is literally swipe left / adjust volume, change track, view queue etc / swipe right

Probably not worth buying an iPad for but for those that already have one, a nice feature!

Sounds like some of the Android app's bad habits might have rubbed off on the iOS version.

Hope it gets fixed soon.
