Naim app 5.0

now on iOS App Store delete old app and download from store, you get version 5.0.
ChrisSU posted:simes_pep posted:Hi guys - If you connect your iOS device that is running the Naim app to iTunes - go into Apps and select the Naim app in iTunes - the files associated with the App are displayed.
These are Playlists created with the Naim app. In iTunes you can then save to your local machine or your NAS, back them up/archive them etc.
You also reintroduce, overwrite them etc. if you want to reinstall or recover.
All possible from iTunes - it was documented somewhere on the forum before.
Simon.
That's what I was referring to above. I had a quick look yesterday but couldn't make it work, or even find the playlist backup folder any more, iTunes seems to have changed since last time I tried.
Confirmed - the Apps listed as being able to share between the iOS and the Computer, no-longer includes the Naim App, with this Release 5.0.1 - see below:
Naim folks - can you raise this as a Bug and look to have it fixed - as we need to be able to save, archive & restore the Playlists created with the App.
Otherwise I will move my numerous Playlists to the server-side, in the UPnP Server - but then they aren't accessible on the homepage.
Thanks, Simon.

I like the idea of managing the playlist from my server (I use Synology and have both Synology and Minim servers loaded - tend to use Minim) as my server backups are much easier to restore when required. I do have a BBC Radio playlist on my server from when the BBC was changing its streaming format so I'll look at moving my playlists to my server - if I can remember how.
As an aside I have noticed that there are one or two upnp control apps appearing in the windows store now - not up to a usable standard as yet IMHO but definately improving.

Hi DWO,
I am using an application called Playlist Creator to create M3U playlists that I store on my NAS and that MinimServer then can surface in the Naim app in a similar way to your playlist with BBC HLS radio stations. It's a bit old, but works perfectly on Windows 10 (Home edition) and with the lastest Synology DiskStation DSM update. It was recommended as one of two or three different applications on the MinimServer forum.
I agree that it would be better if the Naim app playlist could be stored somewhere (e.g. on the NAS or on the device) where it could be prevented from deletion when uninstalling the Naim app, as this requires a bit more work.
Hope that helps.
/Peter
Hi Peter,
Many thanks for the pointer. I'll look at the application and see how I get on with it. I assume that as Simon says (and also how my BBC playlists are presented) I will not have accesss to the list from the front page of the app. If I make two playlists that are the same, at least I'll be able to keep access to the one on my NAS if the one on the Naim App disappears for any reason.
Thanks again
DWO

The tagging order of the server should be irrelevant - the app can do what it likes with the information once it has got it - would not take me very long to knock out the lines of code required to extract prefixes or surnames from artist/composer names, and sort/present them in a meaningful order for the user.
( ... to Naim - my consultancy fees are very cheap:
The client-server architecture, in whatever context, does not preclude processing by the client unless it is a very dumb client indeed!

Sorry a bad bit of quoting here on my part... I'm replying to Allan not Chris here...
Allan ... do you really consider it simple to reverse names automatically ... how does your simple coding know to reverse Wolfgang Mozart to Mozart, Wolfgang but not reverse Elton John?
In other words the basic task is simple... but you need a huge list of exceptions!
ChrisSU posted:You will not have a search facility because you wouldn't need it if a list is only 4 items long. Bear in mind that it is not a global search, it only searches the list you are already looking at, not it's sub-folders - which, in my view, makes it largely useless unless you have forgotten the alphabet!
It is very much useful in my case because I have artists' name stored in Chinese character and there is no way to figure how the Chinese characters are being "sequenced".
Incidentally, I switch between using my Samsung note edge and ipad. The search bar is always available in the android version of the app.
But this is still not my main peeve with the iOS version of the app. Everytime I exit the app and come back to it, it goes all the way back to the "main menu" and not back to the 'album' you were at. Very irritating. No such problem on the android version.
Working perfectly here, as far as I push. Never trust playlists anyway, so not an issue for me.
Nick
Selecting playlists now results in exiting (though not crashing) the app.

Can a Beta tester relay this please (I have left the programme)?
It (ie exiting the app and going to iPhone main screen) happens when I open the app and the first action is to select one of my upnp playlists. If I open the app and go into my NAS drive music screen and then go back to select upnp playlists then it works ok.
Thanks.

I have the same situation. Thought it may be that my NAS was in sleep/hibernate mode but I've just tried it after confirming that my NAS was awake and found that; with the Naim app in use there is no problem but if you close the app (swipe up on iOS) and then try to access playlists as first action the fault sympton as described by Nick occurs.

Any ideas why V5.0 keeps trying to log in my defunct Tidal account every time I select a new track/album in UPNP on my UQ2?
Thanks,
KR, J
I encountered the same problem. I have no idea why V5.0 does this, but I solved the problem by uninstalling the TIDAL App from the iPad and uninstalling / reinstalling V 5.0.
do i need this new upgrade app on my iPad if all i do is play my ripped music? i dont use Tidal...
I use US/NDS...

Ken, if you are planning on sticking with your US you do not need ver 5.0 of the app. Might be worth sticking with ver 4.9 until all the issues are sorted and 5.0 is updated. Even then you do not need it.
Hi Ken,
No, you don't! Unfortunately, I told my iPad to update all without looking properly at the update list and now have a buggy, glitchy interface that is less than a joy to use. When it works properly, I'm sure it will be fantastic - but right now, it doesn't work satisfactorily in all areas.
And before I get jumped on by all those telling me it works fine on their devices, this isn't a pop at Naim; I have Fed back to Phil with screenshots of the issues I have encountered in a constructive way!
Cheers,
Ian
- "Rooms not found" message driving me to distraction! What an embarrassment with guests in for Christmas. I had a stable system and now I don't. I have the fallback of using Roon via minicomputer into NDS, and while very very good, it is not what I know it could be. The app upgraded itself without asking. I don't like that.

I had the same issue but was able to solve it my deleting my email address/username and password from on the form fields. The annoying pop-up has not returned since.
Cheers
Both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini 2 auto updated the app. No issue to report so far other than having to sort the Tidal login window. App seems to be using another font, offering a somewhat cleaner look. One feature that I would love to have is the ability to resize album art in album view with a pinch and zoom feature. Using an iPad Mini displays 6 smallish covers across in landscape mode or 5 across in vertical.

It is such a disappointment that this release is so buggy, it ruins your overall experience of the products.
An update was promised early in the week, let's hope that is the case or we'll be stuck with this poor quality version all over the Christmas holidays, when there is the opportunity for some extended listening sessions.
Of course we could go back to version 4.9, at least it worked. As a user of existing equipment (NDS) there is no new feature/functionality in the 5.0 release to justify this poor experience.. Anything new is just for the Uniti range, consolidating the n-Serv functionality into one App & destablising the rest. It should of been done as a new app for the Uniti products, then consolidated once stable, instead of dragging the entire installed base through a live QA & proving cycle.

Same here but with old app too. I did however change the wifi link to my I pad to my apple time capsule rather than my broadband router and it's been perfect since.
Dont be too quick to blame the update, I can't see any problems with it.
5.0 is now stable on my two iPads.
On odd occasions a label for rooms disappers from the top of the screen. I just see an empty space. But clicking the space activates the rooms function.
Kacper posted:I'm not sure but I think sharpness of the album covers it used to be better right?
You are right: the new v5 displays all my album covers in LOW resolution. I'm sure they were HIGH resolution on V4.9.
Can Naim restore/enable high-res Cover Art please?

unfortunately my iPad seems to have been updated automatically - that the Naim app is now at version 5.0 !!!
though i dont recall doing this, i must have set it to auto-update.
so it sounds like my question was moot -- i now dont really have a choice! i dont want to risk losing my playlists messing around with all the uninstall/install palaver...
enjoy...

I waited quite a while before blaming the update. What else am I supposed to do???
David O'Higgins posted:I waited quite a while before blaming the update. What else am I supposed to do???
The update has given me two issues...
1 - it crashes more frequently
2. The app reconnects with the streamer / NAS which means not as fast and by returning doesn't always show album art.....
It's not nice to see that updates almost always cause issues, before things get back stable again....
does anyone have any idea when all the worrying issues above have been acknowledged and are "known" and therefore when they will be resolved.
this seems a super-urgent issue to me?? some kind of response would be useful, unless its there and i just missed it...?
enjoy...

PS: Ah... now i see in the sticky that "Owners of other Naim hard disk servers will still need to use the n-Serve control ap"
I assume UnitiServe/SSD falls int the category of "... other Naim hard disk servers"?? so does this mean this new app (5.0) is not really designed for old servers such as UnitiServe/SSD??? I have been using the Naim app all the while and NOT n-Serve.
