Sonore UPnP Bridge for Roon

Anyone had any experiences of this yet?

It is a product that means you can use UPnP driven products, such as Naim network players, Squeezeboxes, etc as Roon Endpoints in their Music Management software?

The Roon software is highly rich music management portal to your music. I have been using on a laptop alongside the Naim app for over a year now, to manage my music library and discover new, additional material. It allows you to identify the source path of the Album/track and navigate to that location, if you need to adjust metadata tags, remove duplications, etc.

It is capable of replacing your UPnP server layer, in the form of Asset, Mininserver, DLNA products on NAS & Unitiservers/Core, for indexing & serving the music to the Network player, but adding a wealth of additional information about your music library, in terms of on-screen bios, lyrics, artist background and access to additional material by each artist. The search on Tidal is additive, i.e. it displays what is available on Tidal in addition to what you have already in your collection for that Artist.

With the Bridge product you should be able to play the music through the Naim network player, from the Roon server or controller - both have the same interface on Windows, macOS or iOS.

Now it does involve additional hardware for the Roon core & either an annual fee or a lifetime charge, along with a box to run this UPnP bridge. So is additional expensive & investment, however my dissatisfaction with the Naim app & its development & focus on the new Naim products is causing me to consider this direction for controlling the music to my NDS (which along with a 555DR was a major investment).

There's a thread on the Roon forum about the Sonore UPNP bridge.

It doesn't seem to be fully stable yet but still is in beta version.

There is a thread on here too about it

Yes, I have been following that thread in the Roon forum - one of my good friends and Meridian-kit owner, is a moderator/regular contributor/alpha test to this forum, and introduced me to Roon as they spun out of Meridian back in early 2015 and I was a Beta tester of the Roon software, and a paid-up user since.

The Naim forum thread was more whether there is to be native support for Naim as a Roon End-point, which I am not aware of being announced or any statement saying it is not happening - however my concern is that this would be for the new products only, i.e. restricted to the revised Uniti range only, and not for the existing Classic range (& now seemingly legacy) products.

Hence this was a separate thread about the UPnP Bridge product that will allow the 'Roonification' or to 'Roonify' existing Naim network players as Roon end-points. This means that all control would be through a Roon client or controller, which is the same graphical interface on Win, macOS, and iOS (can't speak for other platforms).

However this does involve additional hardware for the Bridge, Roon core and the Roon annual or lifetime fee. However after an upgrade of my ND5XS/XP5XS to NDS/555DR happy to undertake this, to improve my playing experience, and compliment the wonderful SQ from the Naim products with a good music management experience.

Thanks,
Simon,
