I have acquired an old Naxo-3 (S/N 527x). The firm's records don't show much detail about how it was originally set up. It has never been back to the factory, but was owned for all it's life by an Audio Engineer. It looks pristine. Unfortunately, it's not suitable for use with my Ovator 600's, and can't be adapted (I was given some misleading advice about that - not by Naim, of course). My question is: Are these old Naxo-3's the same as, or very different from, the more usually found Naxo 3/6 etc?

The early NAXOs are very different. Naim were improving the NAXO all the time. The first big change came with the extruded case that arrived in 1980. Next big change was in '84 - the NAXO 3-6 had a completely different PCB layout IIRC, and also could take full advantage of the dual-rail supply from the Hicap.

and another change was the snaxo362 which could take burndy power from a supercap
and then the "floating" snaxo for the bmr S600 which is yet another entirely different design, using the sprung chassis ideas from the superline
