Setting up DS Audio Station as uPNP control point.

Posted by: cbgbz on 24 December 2016

Can someone show me how to set up Audio Station so I can use it's web interface to select and play music through my Naim Qb? From other posts on this forum I'm pretty sure it's possible, but can't figure out how to do it myself.

It would be VERY NICE to have this "under the Christmas tree" tomorrow morning.

Thanks and Happy Holidays,

C.

Just in case it helps, I have a DS 216j NAS running DSM 6.

Hi -

Setting up MediaStation instead might be easier: that is the UPnP server on your Synology, and your Naim app will find it automatically when you select UPnP input on your Qb.

You need two compatible halves to make this work: a server (on the NAS) -and a client (on the device where the music will play); a third part (talking to both halves for control) makes it functional. UPnP is built in to the Naim app and the Qb. The DS Audio app, which is the client for the AudioStation server,  will work on, say, your iPhone but would be less easy to use with your Qb.

Hope this helps. Put some ripped tunes in your music directory on the NAS, use the app Center to set MusicStaion to run, and, seriously, it should just work! Best wishes for a happy Xmas!

Audio Station is used to play your stuff remotely over www & to other devices.  As Alan posted,   to have a feed from Synology to Qb, the Qb is waiting for a DLNA/UPnP connection & thats Media Server.  Your iOS or Android control point will find it & your Qb automatically with its 'Find Rooms' feature

Thanks. The Naim Android app sees the Synology NAS and I can browse, select and play music from the app. The browsing experience isn't the greatest, but can probably be improved. I'd like to get the Audio Station web interface working before I spend any more time trying to get the phone app to work better.

I use iTunes to rip the CDs. The path to the music files is music -> Music-> Artist-> Album-> music (ALAC) files. Do the music files need to be in the top level "music" directory for this to work?

When you say "use the app Center to set MusicStaion to run", do you mean "use Package Center to set Audio Station to run"? I am not familiar with either app Center or MusicStation.

When you say set "MusicStation to run", what do you click on? I don't see anything.

Thanks again. Sorry if I sound a bit pedantic, but I want to make sure I'm looking for the right things.

I posted a similar query on the Synology forum a few days ago and haven't received any replies yet, so thanks to this forum for the quick response.

OK. I think I figured it out.

On the lower right side of the Audio Station home screen. There's an icon that says "My Computer" if you hover the cursor over it . If you click on the icon, a pop-up menu shows other play back devices.

I selected my Qb and music came out.

Ho Ho Ho,

I use media server on dsm 6. It sounds great and has been very reliable. Can't remember how I got it started but it must have been straightforward as im not a computer expert.

Glad to hear it's working! Sorry I said App Center instead of Package Center. As I read your last, you now have AudioStation sending music to your Qb, which is great. Are you then using the web interface to the NAS for control, or is there a way to get DS Audio (on a phone or whatever) in between as the control point? Cool that it's working for Xmas. Best.
