BBC Radio4 HD in UK ++

Only just realised that this must be an international stream on the Mu-so as getting the repeated message this morning "Due to rights restrictions, this part of the program is unavailable"

So going to my default of using iPlayer Radio app on an old iPad I have dedicated as a media player. Connected to the Mu-so USB input, this also allows me to play music and other app sources directly with the advantage that USB input supports Multiroom - unlike Airplay on the Mu-so. Also a much better interface for choosing on demand listening and proper music artwork shown in the music app. Only using the Naim app to setup Multiroom.

Hi Roger,  where are you based ???   if you have a UK IP address,  you will get Naim's 'iRadio' in the Naim iOS & Android  app package(s),  this carries all the BBC services, including all the local radio on HLS stream at 135kbs & 339kbs plus On Demand & Podcasts.

Hi Henry, unfortantely because of the nature of Copyright and IP streaming, some material is not permitted online and can only be received over the air. This happens quite a lot with sport but less so other content but it does happen... it's usually not related to whether you are in the U.K. or not.. not least geolocation of IP addresses can work well with the big fixed line/fibre ISPs but is unreliable for smaller and mobile ISPs.

you may find difficulty in getting a BBC HD stream with some independent ISPs (although you can request access I think) or if you are outside of the UK. This is for cost reasons rather than copyright. The BBC HD streams are( or were) aimed at the UK only.

Thanks for the quick responses Mike and Simon and sorry for not making it clear initially that I am in the UK. Also using fibre internet connection. Most of the time, except for one item this morning, the Naim streamers pick up all the BBC streams just fine. It was just that one item this morning that the message made me realise that in fact Naim must be using an International stream. There was no such message at the the same time on iPlayer Radio on the iPad.

I was using this as part of a more general point about the limitations of the Naim interface, in the Naim app and also on the Uniti and Mu-so devices. I have a parallel post picking up on this theme.

Hi Roger, yes I don't think according to the info I have seen there is any international HD feed from the BBC unless you go through a UK proxy, its UK only. What was the programme you were trying to listen to? Curious it works on iPlay but not the HD streams .. again perhaps copyright related or administrative error....

Thanks Simon

NB I am not, never have been, and never will be a Sonos user, but when researching this repeated message I heard during Today on Radio 4 this morning, I found this discussion

https://en.community.sonos.com...-why-this-is-6612206

which gives some some relevant background. It was probably thought for the day that was on by then, or the item just before that.

I often prefer to use the iPlayer Radio interface anyway, especially for on-demand listening, because of the better user interface and because of the consistency with listening while out and about and in other contexts. The act of starting to play any audio source on the iPad automatically switches the Mu-so over to the USB input.

The range of material available 'on demand' via the Naim app has always been limited compared to what is available on the iPlayer Radio app. For me, sound quality on Radio 4 spoken word programmes is not so important, so I use it as it is, to my mind, superior to Naim iRadio in every respect except SQ.

And, for me, playing through the USB output into a Mu-so gives as good audio quality. As I understand d it, iPlayer automatically picks up the highest quality stream available.

Might be offline for a while. Going out for a walk in sunny Harrogate
