I got a 52 for Christmas !

Posted by: mason63 on 28 December 2016

2 days in with the 52 , it is working well with the 135`s and sibbles, suprise, suprise!, nice to say absolutely no regrets! a fully factory serviced 2001 model, came with a supercap too that i have already, I won`t use the SC on the prefix until i`m fully familiar with what I have already, then i`ll try 52 powered prefix ,HC powered and SC powered.

Problem, not, this is.......

Congratulations! I just had a look at your profile to check what front end you are using. With an LP12/Aro upstream of the Prefix into the 52 you have created perfect synergy! Lucky you.

Cheers Clive B , It certainly sounds that way!

Congrats Mason .. the 52 is a wonderful pre . I am currently running my 52/SC/135's into a pair of Titan T88's- huge boogie factor. Your LP12/Aro should be doing the business, enjoy!

Welcome to the 52 club, great piece of kit.

Enjoy! It is so musical.

You can put the second row mute button on and pull the phono boards if they are not used for small improvements.

My fully serviced 52 is hanging with 135s and getting signals from my CDS2 and 01 into Focal 1038 be's.  Welcome to the top of the Olive tree! Nice place to be!

Enjoy, david

David, I'm also considering having the 52 refurb/serviced.  The right channel sometimes gives off a sizzle/cracking sound, and if I replug the cables, esp the burndy, and give the volume and balance knobs a few turns, it seems OK again.  But it's overdue for service, I think. It's a pre Pots-8 version, with the 52PS.  I recently wrote to Naim and asked for the service cost, but still no reply yet.  Perhaps it's the festive season.  How long did it take for your 52 to be serviced?

Makes me think I should get on and purchase that 82... one rung closer to audio nirvana.

I thought it was my last 52 until you said that you had pulled the mc boards. Mine had straight through boards. Same year, serviced 03/06/16.

Hi Paul,

Ok thanks!

Another doubt, if you use a turtable with external phono wich input should I use? Direct in phono or?

I think i have a new task for tomorrow!

Historically, the Tuner input has served me well for this purpose. Of course, if you have a Tuner, then the Aux input is the next default. Good luck, 52's are awesome and a real value at current prices.

I had my 52 serviced a few years ago with pots 8 upgrade- came back sounding better- more organic and more refined as I remember.  Done by Chris West of AV Options. Not cheap but quite worthwhile.  Great preamp - when it first came out was considered by many to be crazy expensive. How times have changed looking what a new 252/supercap costs as well as what the 552 costs -let alone an Statement S1!   This is why a serviced 52 is a great value.

i own all Olive so I am biased but I think Olive style is timeless. Enjoy, David

Well done on the 52 - it is a very fine pre outright. I went from 82/SC to 52/sameSC  and wow!  Detail and tunefulness was a clear step up. Both with latest POTS. I often wonder why I traded in and not keep for a second system (I've kept all my previous speakers which were Kans and Epos14).
