HDX problem.

Out of the blue, my HDX seems determined not to recognise any CD, when inserted for ripping duties.

I've tried several different CDs , but "no disc present" persists.

Any ideas chaps?

Maybe the internet connection is lost in some way. Can you play internet radio? Is the rip correct, and can you create the correct tags?

I had this problem with my HDX. It turned out to be the CDs. I was unlucky to buy 3 or 4 CDs at the same time that the HDX didn't recognise. I was advised here to burn a copy of the CDs on my laptop and try these in the HDX. That worked. CDs since then have (almost all) been okay. Have you tried making a copy of one of the CDs and trying the copy with the HDX?

I occasionally get this with my UnitiServe. It's actually not a faulty CD as such but some sort of a glitch.

I found two solutions:

1. Try to rip another CD and go back to the one that will not rip later on

2. The above failing - a good old re-start.

Good luck,

Adam

PS Out of 1000 or so CDs I've ripped I have perhaps 7-10 that simply will not rip. So I play them on my CDX2 insted.

Another option is to try and rip the CD via a PC (dBpoweramp?) direct to your music store?

I've had this with my HDX-SSD happen more than once.

Typically it will either report that no CD is present (and do nothing) or say that no CD is present and start ripping it - the front panel indicates that nothing is happening but my ears (hearing the drive whirring) and the ripping monitor on the iPhone app indicate otherwise. Another glitch is it failing to download the metadata.

All of this is just down to bugs in the software. Just shut it down, wait and then restart. This cures it.

I often wonder if Naim actually use their own equipment - it's a puzzle that such bugs remain after such a long production run.

I seem to have solved the issue, without really understanding how.

I had shut down and re-booted the HDX several times, to no avail, but this time I also powered it off completely via the rear switch, and left it off for half an hour.

It all seems to be back to normal now, though I am at a loss to why it should have glitched in the first place.

Anyhow, top tip for HDX, and, presumably Uniti owners, if you experience this problem, power the unit all the way down, and all will be well.

Life was so much more straightforward with CDs.

Fundamentally the HDX, NS0x, Unitiserve are all based on PC technology.

So the same remedy prescribed by the IT department to fix your PC at work applies.

Switch it off and back on again.

That usually works.

Yup, though simply shutting the unit down and re-booting didn't cure the problem.

It wasn't until I turned off the power at the rear switch that normality was restored.

Odd, but ho hum, it's working fine once more, so who cares.

Yes - always mains off at the rear switch. Only then are the pesky PC bits 'off' and not just slumbering.

Funny I thought I had  red somewhere that the servers could not be waken from standby, but had to be turned off from the switch first. Obviously I was wrong.

But take note that you need to power down the servers before you use the switch on the back to turn it off.
